Ways to get taillights open?

I'm about to mod my taillights and have a few questions. I see everyone cutting them apart around the edge with a dremel. They always cut through the plastic that you see when the trunk is open, can you cut behind that to prevent it from looking like crap? Also, how are the lights glued on from the factory? Is it not possible to melt them like the headlights? I have 07-08 and 04-06 base tails, a dremel, b92p nbp and clear paint, butyl tape and am ready to go. Also, ive seen ppl glue them and then use butyl tape. What glue do ppl use to reseal? Only butyl, or glue and butyl? Ive searched countless threads with no answer. Thanks for any info.

The only way to get the taillights open are to dremel them (they cannot be baked open such as headlights). The trunk side part of the taillight will have to be cut where everyone has been doing it, no way around that really. I know a member here seals them closed with butyl (sorry cannot remember the name I think it's Aaron though)
Me personally, I have sealed mine with silicone to bridge the gap from cutting, then I used JB quick weld around the entire taillight, and I always get new LED board and turn signal gaskets and haven't ran into any leaking issues. The one thing I would reccomend as does Ack when he does tailligts is to grind down the metal tab the protudes out from the car where the taillights sit, if you don't you may run into improper fitment and possibly cracking because the place where you put silicone builds up a lot more than un-modified taillights and the metal tab doesn't sit right. I'll try to find a picture so you understand what I'm talking about.

This is where that metal tab fits into on the taillight:

This is what im going for basically. Except nbp bezel to match my car and no carbon fiber reflector, smoked the same as the turn signal. Mmmm... im debating on sending them to bruce or doing them myself... if its not perfect im gonna be pissed. To do or not to do...
