^i wouldn't say that
i think he paid 120 for the materials but not for the vinyl, I mean getting 25 yrds and 48 inches wide will never cost anyone $120... I was gonna do this as well, and i was told i needed to buy 50 linear feet... the cost per linear foot is $20 for any size over 50 linear feet, do the math and u will find out that it is not as cheap as u think...
if u guys find it for 120 then let me know lol

Because it will most likely be too pricey to have someone do it for me, I am most likely going to have to do it over winter break so Mid December where I will have nothing but time.
After looking around I will probably go for Satin black because IMHO, it looks best but for now I am looking for the best prices so if you guys see anything, dont hesitate to share!

If anyone in the NOVA found a place that could do it let me know. I'm willing to buy the supplies but just don't have the time to do it. And some tint guys are refusing to even do it.

Hey all!
Sorry to bring up an old thread on a different section of azine (I'm a 2G guy) but I've been working out the logistics of vinyl wrapping and just finished doing an 87 supra (my buddies) in matte black.
I bought Oracal vinyl a) because it is cheap and b) because every source I read told me that it was good enough to be durable and not leave residue
The supra came out great (it was dark by the time I finished but I'll try and snap some photos soonish) but most importantly, I wanted you all to know that while it isn't easy, it isn't extremely hard either. You have to have ALOT of patience. his car took me two weeks working 2/3 hours a day and doing it panel by panel. The only thing I'd say 3G specific is that if you have the a-spec lip, you're best off taking it off and wrapping it while it isn't installed. the more curvaceous the item, the harder and longer it takes.
get a good heat gun! it'll save you headaches, DON'T use a blowdryer, it doesn't give off constant heat (it's circular like a vortex) and squeegee a lot
here's the vinyl I bought: http://www.uscutter.com/ORACAL-651-I...oll_p_121.html You need ATLEAST 20 feet so I bought two rolls (near the end I was worried it wouldn't be enough, but I made it) and 100 bucks plus shipping was an excellent deal
hope that helps someone! pm if you have specific questions

I don't want to be mean and say, "Pictures, or it didn't happen", but I would really like to see pictures!

ok. i grew a pair and went forth and did it! Here's the first stage of the wrap. I did my hood, roof, trunk and lip spoiler in 3M Dinoc. Stuff is expensive. $5 per sq foot. It took a 4'x5.5' for hood, 4'x6' for roof and 4x5 for trunk. I used scrap for the lip spoiler.

next is me finding satin black vinyl or buying white vinyl and have a print/paint shop spray it down for me.

I have read the entire 26 page thread from e90post. If you wanted to wrap your entire car in what this guy did, it would cost you $200. This guy got the vinyl for $120 because he got it from his friend. However....the vinyl he used is called Oracal 631..and it is NOT suitable for cars. It is suitable for signs. This guy got very lucky that he peeled it off in only 3 months, b/c if he didnt, then he would have had a serious problem with his paint. Oracal does make a vinyl made specifically to wrap a car, but it costs about 700-900. But the experts dont recommend oracal products for cars. Also, I have never done this, but many people say that the thickness of the vinyl is important, because the thicker it is, the harder to work with. I hear this is very hard to do, and most people end of buying the vinyl and quitting. This is what I am afraid of. I dont want to spend $500 on 3M 1080 series vinyl, just to quit due to a lack of experience. Hope this helped!!!!!
