At this very moment...I'm in a hotel room, on the way home with my new TL-S

And a mileage limit is only listed for driving regularly in "severe" driving conditions, none of which exist in inhabited parts of North America...

Ok you are right, its not in the Owners manual. Only says if you drive under severe conditions then do it at 60,000 miles. But I noticed the owners manual does not say when each maintenance minder is tripped. So, where does it say 105,000 miles? Either way, if you keep your car to 110k, or 120k or even 140k miles, you will still have to change it once. So, if you plan on keeping your car up to 100k miles, you might as well change it if you can, after 70 or 80k miles.. That way it will remove any risk and you are still good up to 140k miles. That is, if you replace at 70k miles, then another 70k equals 140k and you are safe. So, FOR ME, after 70k was enough waiting.. I doubt I will ever keep this car past 110k miles, but I might hit 90 or even 100. But let me ask you this. Is 90k soon enough? what about the "what if"? I had a Mitsubish1 3000GT once that was CLEAN.. and it did not even have 100k miles, and BAM it broke one day and it cost me $2,500. I'll never do that again!! So if 100k is the interval, I will not even try to bump that mark! I am doing it early..

The book (either OM or SM) doesn't list time OR mileage for normal driving. The interval is when the MID displays a "4" with "service due now".
All the examples I've seen of when the MID displays a "4" have all been 105K +/- ~3K.
It's up to you if you want to change it earlier. I don't recall any reports of a 3G TB breaking before 105K....

come to think of it, I have never heard of anyone's timing belt breaking on these TL's.

My MID lit up for the timing belt service @ 102k. I personally wouldn't rush into it unless the MID told me to. We are just a small portion of TL owners who actually are concerned about properly maintaining our cars. God only knows how many 100k+ TLs are on the road that have never had the belt change. Unless you beat the piss out of your car its not going to snap.
I would just do it when the car tells you to.

Derrick...I'm in Colorado Springs also, cept I am selling my 08 TL, Base w/auto to my sone and his fiance'. 84K miles for $12.8K. I agree, to this point it was the best car I've ever owned. I now own a '11 335i which I hope will be the new best car I've ever owned. I've owned since last Saturday and it's been in the shop since Monday for a new heater core the selling dealer is replacing. At any rate, congrats on the pickup, you'll love it. One question, has the timing belt service been done? It is due and will run you anywhere from $600-$1500 depending on the shop you use. High end would be Pikes Peak Acura, I recommend you avoid them. Freedom Honda up north or Hondac (Honest Accurate) on the east side off Tutt are good shops. Freedom has serviced my TL, only thing I ever needed was tranny fluid swap and oil changes. I did brake pads myself.

Listed price & what we'll sell it for price = two completely different things, my friend. Of course "too high" is entirely subjective & dependent upon what one is looking to/willing to spend - but I thought their original asking price of $15,990 for this car wasn't at all out of line

Cool on the T belt...and I haven't driven my 335i since Monday, cuz it is still in the shop. Needed a heater core...in a 2011? WTF? Service adviser at Winslow told me in 13 years he had never had to replace a BMW heater core. Hope it's not a sign of things to come.

lol @ dealer prep and inspection. That's always the biggest crock of ----.
Prep takes 1 or 2 low wage employees to shine the car real quick and inspection is an hour and a half thing by a shop guy. That's pretty much like that for all dealerships, just some like to charge a bunch for it. If there's anything they can wave off it's that. My uncle used to work for the biggest Mazda dealership in the world and prep and inspection was mostly making sure windshield washer was full and tires properly inflated (since they come over-inflated when they're shipped)...
