Verizon and Bluetooth
Hello all,
I have been following the various threads with regard to bluetooth phones and Verizon. I too have Verizon service and I have a 04 TL on order (Black/Camel/nav, arriving mid November). Some folks have mentioned that the Kyocera 7125 Smartphone equipped with a SD bluetooth card will work in the car. As far as I can tell from searching the Web, the Kyocera Smartphone will not work, even though it is a CDMA phone/PDA. Apparently, it is not compatible with the Palm SD Bluetooth card. Does anybody have more accurate info on this Smartphone and bluetooth?
i think there may be another option, however, and I am wondering if anyone out there has tried this yet. Motorola had a "Timeport 270c" phone that can be equipped with a Bluetooth Version 1.1 compliant bluetooth adapter. Motorola no longer sells the phone, but you can still buy the Bluetooth adapter from their Web site. Check the Motorola link below for more info on the Bluetooth adapter for the Timeport phone.

The Timeport phone itself is readily available on eBay. I am really hoping this works, because I already bought the phone on eBay and the Bluetooth adapter from Motorola.
I talked to the local Verizon Wireless store here in Vermont and they said it should work fine. We'll see in a few weeks. In the meantime, I am continuing to buy Verizon (via emails and signing the online peitition) to get off their rears and get us a Bluetooth phone!

I was thinking of the same idea re T270. The key here is whether the handsfree protocol will work with the Handsfreelink on the TL. Please let me know if this works, because this was my best idea on how to get verizon bluetooth, too. Otherwise, I will use portability in Nov and change carriers.
The Acura website says that those 5 phones listed are a partial list of what will work. The dealer says that they are the only phones that will work. If I remember, the T270 is very cheap on eBay and the bluetooth adapter is like $10. If it works, it is a cheap option to accomplish our goals.

I just re-read the Acura website. It says any Bluetooth phone with a handsfree profile. Maybe we could check the bluetooth adapter instructions/270 instructions to see. I wonder if they are on motorola's web site?
I checked the instructions to the module, not much help. I also checked the 270 instructions. There appears to be some type of handsfree profile given the built in speaker phone, auto answer, etc. Maybe it will work.

Far as I know the 270c will not work because it only has bluetooth 1.0 or something like that and the car uses 1.2 or 1.1 or something similar. There were a few threads on this phone and I believe it was confirmed not to work on the TL system. I think those of us that use Verizon are either going to have to switch companies or suck it up until around this time next year.
I think all we can do is switch to another carrier. I've sent e-mail to Verizon (under customer support on their web site you can even send it to an exec) and signed the on-line petition, but it looks like all they care about is selling phones that increase profit. Phones that send pictures or text messages are more profitable since they bill for those services. Bluetooth is a feature that doesn't effect their bottom line, so they aren't willing to react. I bet if there was a way Verizon could profit from bluetooth, we'd have a dozen phones with it.
All we can do is hit them in the wallet and switch to another carrier. Good thing for us the new legislation that goes into effect next month lets us keep our existing phone number.

The T270c Bluetooth adapter is version 1.1 compliant. I have the instrcution manual and, even though it does not refer to "handsfree profile", it sure looks like it will do everything that the Acura Bluetooth system needs.

Called and chewed out Verizon (and stopped by the local store, too). Of course they have absolutely no answer as to when they will have a BT product. Portability in 4.5 weeks! Looks like I have to change carriers.
Verizon is not helpful in this regard. I stopped by a store, called customer service and even spoke to a rep at a football game. There have no plans to take the Bluetooth route. Interestingly enough, Jabra sells a cordless earpiece that is sold in Verizon stores that uses Bluetooth technology.
I think next week or soon, the new bill goes into effect, in which u can keep the same number and change providers, everyone take it in use and show verizon that they will lose customers..

Verizon can't do much. The problem is that none of the handset manufacturers make CDMA phones that support Bluetooth. All Bluetooth phones currently on the market are GSM phones.
Yes, I agree that Verizon could (should?) put some pressure on the handset manufacturers, and I have been bombarding various people and organizations at Verizon for half a year now (I've been a customer of theirs for 6 years). I even exchanged a few emails with their "president's office, western region" recently.
All they say is, "yes, we are working on it and we will have it very soon, but we can't tell you when".
