V3 Triton LED Blinker Install

I know there are a few other threads about this, but I've found that a lot of people were having different results. I ordered amber (non-switchbacks) and red for the rear. Here is a pic of the amber:

Not too many surprises. I had my fronts plugged in backwards and nothing happened. I just flipped the connector in the OEM socket and it worked. The rear was a little harder to fit in the light housing. But both fit snug. 3mm screws with the thick gasket up front and the middle size for the rear worked best for me. I tried to focus the bulbs but found the best results were all the way in.

Here are the clips I took so that others can see how well these work. There have been clips outside already on the other threads. Plus my car is over at my parents house (they let me store my car there during the winter) So stockies and a half inch lift in the front to get it in the garage.

Driver's side has the V3s. My main reason for going with LEDs is the instant on and off now matches with the mirrors. I really disliked the blinkers out of time.

I couldn't figure out how to embed youtube. Here is the line to a bunch of videos. If there is a better way to do this, please let me know. On with the clips:

Since the OP mentioned he found that the bulbs all the way in was best for focus, I went back into the garage to double check my method. I first set them so that the end of the LED lens (which is where it seemed most light was emitted from the lens) was at the exact same distance from the base as the filament in the standard bulb. I assumed that the headlight housings were designed to focus light best from that exact distance. Since the OP suggested he found them to be best all the way I wanted to make sure I had them in the optimum position.
So I moved the LED lens in all sorts of positions, and unless the base TL has a slightly different parking lamp reflector housing than my Type S (which I highly doubt), I found that my original method of spacing them just like the filament bulb was best. The light was without a doubt more intense and focused in this setting than having them all the way in. Obviously you are free to position them anyway you want, but my tests show they are best spaced like the original filament bulb.
Hope this helps.

James

Very interesting JTS. I bet our housings are the same and that you are right. I was doing it inside a garage with only 5 feet to work with. I wanted to mention that I attempted to focus them. I bet when you look at them from further away, it makes a difference. I'll spend more time focusing them when I have the car in my own garage. I wouldn't mind them being even brighter!

I found two free hours yesterday so I ran over to see what they looked like. I didn't even attempt to focus the rear. Nothing is buttoned up yet and even if it were, it's not too hard to get to the bulbs. Thanks for your testing!

i also put the LED tip at the same distance as the OEM filament...figured it was at that distance for a reason from the factory

I know it's an old thread but am glad I found it to get an idea of how they looked since I just bought a used set from a member on here. Def looking forward to tackling this project tomorrow morning. Thanks for the posting the videos.

Well they are very bright as I saw for myself tonight. But now my passenger's side is flashing rapidly and my driver's side isn't. So I'm dreading to having to remove the front bumper again today since it was my first time and wasn't expecting to remove all that much to do it, but boy was I wrong.
