Upgrade to TL-S

Since I've started to mod this car, my buddy suggested why not get a TL-S since it will have everything I plan to do to mine. Quads, headlights etc etc. I already have XXR wheels and Type-S tails on mine. I have a 07 Base with 120k and still need to do my 105k in the next few weeks. What is the price difference between them ATM? Huge, little? I plan to spend another 2k total on mods. And that's not including the wheels that I already got. But I would prob put them on the TL-S if i got one. Another option would be do what I want to this to a certain point and then save up for a 2010-2011 TL. My car is paid off right now, so I don't know. Should I upgrade? Is it worth it? Honest opinions please!

I was thinking to do the same but the Stealership will probably give you around 9k for it. They quoted mine for 8k with my mods and I just laughed I have 112k on mine. i say just keep the car and mod it instead..Unless your willing to spend 10-12k on a tl-s with 50k miles on it

Then they will prob quote me around there lol. Fuck that. I could sell it privately and get a little more but that's still 8k+ difference prob. All for like 20 HP haha. I think I'm just going to continue with this. Thanks!

^^^or you can stop modding the base and save money for a TL-S instead.

if your serious about it you can return your car to stock for some extra cash (besides the dealership doesn't care about mods) or keep some of those parts for the TLS and can get more money selling it privately but it might take a little longer.

No offense, but what did you expect them to give you? Its a 112K+ mile 7 year old car thats been modded. ALWAYS sell a car without mods...Most people do not want a car thats been modified...Not only that but they are not worth anything to the value of the car when you go to sell it. IMO they actually take away from the value. The best thing to do if your looking to sell eventually is remove all the mods and return it to stock.

As far as the Type S goes, its just my opinion but I love them and in my opinion are worth it. Its hard to say how much more a Type S costs over a base model since used cars are all in different conditions and mileage. I think general rule of them has always been about a 5-6K premium over the base.

I would never buy a car that modded because I never know how much abuse from the owner.

That's not necessarily always the case. Majority of us on here mod our cars and I'm sure they are maintained much more than the average TL where driver that doesn't mod and only consider their car as a mode of transportation from point A to point B.

^correct. us enthusiats care about our cars and keep up on regular maintenance...and even extra maintenance that a non-enthusiast would never even consider.

but guys like you and Shark is just minority of the entire majority people modded car, the owner put intake, exhaust, nice wheel, lower the car, force induction for what? doing speed limit on the road? I don't think so. The only time I would buy a modded car is from someone I know in person how well he taken care of the car and how the car started before the mods.

I wouldn't buy a modded car solely because i wouldn't feel like it was "mine". I have to do the work and I have to be the one that swears at the car while doing it... I have to put in the sweat and $$ in order for it to feel like "my" car.

In addition, I KNOW every little fault when I do my own work. If I bought a car with an A-spec kit, I wouldn't know how it was installed, if they did it the same way I would.

Ask me if I want to buy a car that is modded to what I want it to eventually look like or a car that is stock, I will most likely choose the stock every time (unless you GIVE me the modded car for a deal i can't refuse).

I have the same problem like you too. I've found a nice TL-S recently after I bought my base TL . My current car is slightly modded and I love it. I did think about trading it in and buy the TL-S but it's not worth it, really. All that work you've put in modifying your car goes to waste, just to start over again. Frankly, not much people would buy an already modded car, from my understanding. In my honest opinion, stick to what you got already. All that work done just to trade it in for a TL-S and more money out of your pocket? It's a no-no.

In MY opinion, STOP modding and buy a Type-S. I have owned 3 TL's. New 06 ASM TL Nav, auto. A New ASM 07 Type-S auto. And a Certified WDP 06 TL Nav, 6-speed. I spent $10,000 on this car. I am going to buy a used 07-08 Type-S around July. The 2 things I will do ASAP, is tinted windows, and Tein SS coilovers. AWESOME

You're gonna buy a type-s only to make additional payments for a "new car". The money spent to pay it off could spend on modding your current car.

Just keep your current tl and mod it, all you're paying for is .2liters and few more extra HP. Unless you're going from auto to 6speed. Plus, theres not many modded CGP, try to hold the title of the cleanest/best looking CGP

07-08 type s worth it

I bought my first TL in June 2011. I was really impatient and didn't care too much for the type S. Of course I heard about it but was thought the difference between the base and type was insignificant. So I ended buying a WDP 08 TL Base and added an Aspec and dropped it. THen I had the opportunity to actually see a type s in person. Let me tell you, I fell in love. I so regretted buying the base and not spending my time buying a type s. So in October, buying my 2nd car, i found my 08 NBP type S. Right away, I felt the difference.
My advice, if you can find a type with low miles, it is worth it*( mines is 32k miles). Type S are rare and it carries the name. The resale value is better. The new TLs are ugly and overrated. Plus you will end up spending up more money. Overall, TYPE S is worth it, and doesn't make sense to mod your TL base into a "wannabe" type S.

Think of it this way. At least you didn't get an accord. Hahahaha

Anyways just keep it. Type s is nice but it's not twice the car you already own.

I dont think its worth it in your case but one thing i do like is that the type S quads is oem so theres no need to mod to fit it. Your car is paid off so i would just save for something maybe bigger and better down the road.

Not worth it IMHO. Enjoy not having car payments, and save up for the next ride. No car payments FTW!
