Anyone have anything better? I need some real ideas here, not jokes about this..... OK?

Instead of a screw, use a Nut/Bolt, and JB weld the two together

If you need to take it off, have the bolt torched

Nothing is 'unstealable'.

Try getting one of those, I'll just yank it off.

You can't do anything about it really without modifying/damaging your bumper minus changing the nut.

Who steals license plates anyways?

Saw it on cops the other day, drug dealers and people using stolen vehicles to commit crimes swap the plates

Or, you could take the bumper off, use a longer bolt, one that would require removing the bumper to remove the plate ...

idk...

The screws I use for my rear license plate can only be removed and installed with a allen key.... It's still stealable, but it doesn't use the conventional screw driver like most plates use

This. Advance Auto sells a set that uses an allen key that has a hole in it, and the bolt heads have a spike, keeping a normal allen key from working.

^They are called security torx.

I agree your best bet is going to be something that requires a specialized tool. I think the OP's screw would work best since it's not very common. It reminds me of the screws they use on hardware in bathroom stalls though..lol

Now this sounds good! But can it be grabbed by say a vice grip? Thats how they got my other round head screws off. Could have been a pliers I guess.... I would like to see any other ideas! Thanks guy's. This place never let's me down.....

Cool Thanks!

OK,
It looks neater, I'll give you that. But my old round head screws were grabbed onto by a vice grip or something like that. This thing would be easier than the round headed screw! I think anyway. Don't you. I am leaning to the security torx so far..... Here is the link to Advanced Auto-http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/web...hedFrom=header

Take a look with the vice grip approach in mind.

I have the security torx on my car and I would guess if someone was determined they could get them off with vice grips. They are round headed but pretty small. It would be frustrating to get of with vice grips thats for sure.

How about these. Low profile and very hard stainless so a vice grip wouldnt be able to get a bite on it.

I ordered a set of allen key stainless steel fender bolt's from .net for a 2002 Accord for around $10 or $15. I have 4 on the front and back and they are the best I could find for the price. They look similar to the Mugen plate bolt's.

I have been able to remove those screws easliy at work, all i did was a quick file on the head and then put a screw driver to it. I have also done recessed ones of that style and all it needed was a little extra pressure pushed against it to give it grip.

I have these. I lost the key for a while and needed to remove my plate, so I grabbed a flat tip screwdriver that fit and started removing the bolt. Pretty much same thing that goes got all of those security boltsd

If someone could find something like our end link bolts but with very smooth rounded heads. You would start the bolt with your fingers and then go behind and stick an allen key or whatever type of design from behind through the bolt hole and screw it in from the back side. I have attached a little scetch of this to give a better idea of what i am talking about.

You could do the samething I did with the clear-corners on my Infiniti when they got stolen... Go to an electronics store, and buy magnetic reed switches. (The things that home alarms use to put on doors windows). Get the kind that is normally closed, and opens when placed in a magnetic field...

Then mount the switch behind the bumper, and glue a rare-earth magnet to the back of the plates... Then splice the switch into your hood-pin switch. I think you can splice the rears into the light for the rear trunk, unless there is a pin switch in the trunk too... Anyways, this makes it so if someone takes your plates, the alarm will go off...

Here is what the switch looks like... (You can get the kind that is inside a plastic casing, like those found on aftermarket home alarm installs, but those are more expensive, but even those I think are like $5.00. The one pictured below is the one I got... It's the size of a diode. I got it at an electronics store that sells resistors and capacitors... I think this switch was like $2.00

The bolt is a standard M6x25, 8.8 grade. If you're looking for the hardware specifics, this conforms to any fastener under the ISO 4017 OR DIN 933 equivalent in the 'OE' spec.

So, there's a shit-ton of 'security' grade fasteners, you just need to get one that's fitting equivalent to the above listed characteristics, and you're GOOD TO GO.

Here's a great variety, again, you're looking for an M6x25.

My brother's license plate was stolen. He reported it stolen and got replacement plates. A month later, a robbery was committed with his plates. Luckily he had reported the plates stolen, so he was cleared without too much hassle.

This makes sense, but when I had my '08 Charger stolen I didn't have any type of anti-theft license plate cover.

When the cops eventually found my 'shell-of-a-car' the plate was just sitting in the back seat.

Honor among thieves?

you guys do realize that even if you put the best bolts or even welded a bolt on that the license plate can still be pulled off right?

The screws actually go into the clips! The clips can be broken with enough force!

thats true for the bottom two but the top two are in the metal of the trunk lid, if i remember correctly i dont think they are clips.

OP like others said i would think security torx are the way to go. Most thieves dont carry security torx drivers and they prly will just move onto another car instead of hassling with yours. No matter what you use they can find a way atleast with security torx if they do they prly wont cause damage to your car.
