My rant...
talk about a xmas gift...
walked to my car. noticed a little dirt on the top of the trunk. looked closer and noticed my decklid spoiler was no longer there....
not a happy camper at the moment
guys ( and gals ) specially those of you whom like me have a Type S...
as the 3G TL becomes more and more affordable, specifically the 04 - 06 models, it is evident and becoming more clear to me that we need to keep a closer eye on our rides. i say this because, as more people begin to have greater access, financially to these models, our Type S' will become more of a target for thieves and lowlifes looking to upgrade their own cars, or others looking to sell said parts to others with TL's
just my unhappy 2 cents for today/

this shyt is only happening in NY i am so pissed bro and sorry for your loss. Just yesterday i walked to my car and i noticed my spoiler lifted up a little..looks like a failed attempted. I didn't notice any scratches, dirt or anything else. Just the spoiler lifted at the corner. I did install LEDs for license plate recently ..not sure if i knocked out a clip or anything, when i was installing the liner back in.

Dude you are so right about this...
I hate goin over the bridge to NY it just seems like they dont value other peoples property they drive like bats outta hell, it would be a understatement if I said I dont see at least 10 potential accidents whenever I go over there.
Its a violating feeling when some1 steals something off of your ride mfers dont know how hard some1 worked to get that specific part or upgrade. People steal everywhere but NY is just a damn nest egg for assholes

Damn.... It's starting to seem like everytime I come to the 3G section I'm almost expecting to see a post about wheels jacked/spoiler gone or someone's car vandalized/broken into.
I know the 3G is a very popular car and it's becoming more affordable, but jesus christ this is gettin ridiculous. You couldn't pay me to mess with someone else's ride.
Sorry about the decklid OP. That's lame they did that.

www.elitespoilers.com or get one even cheaper through their ebay store.
I think this is the sign of the times. While NY might be pinpointed of late, I wouldn't feel safer in CA since there are other factors besides geography to consider. I think the theory of the affordability of the TL to younger folks holds water based on past experience. Here are some trains of thought:
1. the TL is more affordable and popular with the < 25 yr old crowd now that you can purchase one for 10-20k
2. the new TL owners have made their most important purchase and wish to upgrade appearance to personalize it. Kids likes things that are relatively easy to add and give their car a 'sporty' appearance- so spoilers are a 'must have' item for some.
3. a spoiler can be acquired for $50 for a 'hot' item or $400 for an OEM new item- many kids will choose the $50 hot item- after all a spoiler is a spoiler as long as the color matches is all that matters
I say this with experience on the stereo and spoiler theft from 30 yrs ago. Theft was rampant then and sounds similar now. We had issues with people getting their wheels and spoilers jacked then as we do now. The only improvement is with stereos since OEM is pretty specific to model application instead of a DIN standard where radios could interchange easily between car brands.
Sorry for your loss- I found having a $50 comprehensive deductible was my best solution for coping with theft issues back then. I had about 15 break-ins on my VW Scirocco and boy did that get old.

When you mess with someone's car you are really rolling the dice on getting badly hurt and they will get what's comming. Good places to steal stuff happen to be good places for beat downs.

Only happening in NY. Check out the NY/NJ regions section, seems like every week something is getting stolen. Like everyone else has said with the 04-06 TL's becoming cheap many people from the "civic crowd" are "moving up". An 04 TL can be had for $7k.
Keep an eye out for where you park and be smart about parking. Don't leave your car in the middle of a rough area. But to be fair its not only TL's, my good friend who has a E90 3 series had his front lip and lip spoiler from his trunk stolen. Another friend also got his lip spoiler stolen from his E90 3 series. All these happened in NY.
