Is this Type S over-priced or what?

Hey guys,

I've been a member on these boards for awhile. I'm still searching for a TL S and could use some opinions on a car I found. Dealership is asking around $32,000 for a TL S with approx 11,500 miles. I would be importing it to Canada (warranty would be void in Canada but I live a couple hours away from a dealership in the states). The car is "Acura Certified"... not sure if this really justifies a high price. I feel like the car is significantly over-priced even if I negotiate it down some. Problem is, the car is exactly what I'm looking for! I've been really patient waiting for the right one to come along for years and my RSX is nearly at 100,000 kms I want to trade it soon! What should I do here?

Year, color, 5sp or 6sp, navigation?, carfax? and location can also has an impact on the price of the car.

That is very high priced.
They are banking on someone wanting a low mileage TL-S or bust. That's the only thing keeping this rare. Your best bet is to wait it out for a month or so, because I doubt anyone would buy that just because of 12k miles.

I got my 08 with 31k miles for $24.6 so i dunno. That just seems crazy.

08', NBP, Auto, Close to Washington. It's priced the same as a Canadian one would be. A year ago I was willing to forget about the warranty issues when importing because I would be saving so much buying a car in the States, now it's just about the same. I feel like I should be paying somewhere around 27,000 USD for this car. That seems about right to me... What do you guys think?

You pay a premium to car lots because they are able to offer the average buyer more then a private seller.

They offer a wider selection, financing, the ability to trade in a car, and acura certified cars for whatever thats worth to you. There is a cost to all this. Someone with cash doesn't need to trade a car in. Someone with cash doesn't need financing. Someone with cash can buy from anyone so their selection is limitless.

I'm not saying you can't negotiate a good deal with what you have but your going to have a much harder time doing it then someone with cash. The dealer knows you cant trade a car to just anyone. They will make you pay for that!! Second a dealer is in the buisness to make a profit. They get their used cars from people like you who aren't always going to let them go for nothing. Althought they try.

Purchased an 08 TL Type S CBP with 24K miles for just over $26K. It was certified from an Acura dealer. If you are talking $32K US, that's too high. With the exchange rate, can't you get one even cheaper if you drive down to the states? (assuming you're in Vancouver or somewhere close to the border)

it's high in my opinion. the price for the new TL-S back in 08 was about 35-38k. but you are paying for the warranty and hassle free

Don't like the color, but still the most amazing deal I've seen.

It's amazing what LOCATION does to car values. I don't understand that completely. Florida seems to have the best deals ??

100,000 km is what around 70k miles??

Are you just wanting something different or do you think your RSX has high mileage??

That TL is higher priced, I have seen quite a few places asking prices like that.
I say keep looking and you can find better prices especially if you are going to have to import it and pay Canada fees on top of car price.

How much do you guys think I should be paying for this car? If I do have my heart set on this vehicle, how much approx should I be offering for it? I might just sell my RSX privately.

I also want to import because all the windows are tinted (since factory) which, from what I have heard, means that I can get away with it in British Columbia, where there are laws against front window tinting.

I know it sounds impatient of me... but I have been very patient for a year and a half now and I am tired of waiting. I love the TL Type S and have test driven it many times. Just kills the RSX imo.

I paid $34000 on the road for my TLS with aspec kit. I'm in Toronto so we get the same ass raping car prices as you guys in Van. It was the highest priced one on the market at the time (about a year ago), but also the lowest mileage (52000km) and in the best condition. I've looked at more than a dozen of them anywhere from $27k to $32 and I can honestly say that you get what you pay for. Yes, maybe there is a premium on the one you're looking at, but that might be because it's the one in the best condition (just guessing). Either way, you should keep looking and test them all out to find the quietest and cleanest out of the bunch.

they can be had for much less with slightly higher mileage.

IMO go for $20-25k with <50k miles...It can be done if you wait it out.

I paid 23,000 + tax/title/tag/etc but it never reached 32,000 with all those extra fees. Mines came with 48,XXX miles on it. SO yea IMO its a little steep

It's all gunna depend on what the car comes with in that price and where the dealership is located. But nevertheless, I bought my '08 CBP 6MT TL-S with 43k miles for 25k after ALL taxes and fees, warranties and gap insurance. So, it definitely seems a little high for me too.
