type s or not ?

i have a 2004 acura tl automatic with 93000 miles, i love to drive fast and race people and was wanting some opinions on which way i should go. should i keep my current car (which is paid for) and get a j pipe, catback exhaust, pulley and so forth, or should i fork out about $15000 plus my trade and get an 07 type s ? i dont know if its worth all that extra money or not ? i would love to be able to race mustangs and win but i dont know if im being realistic unless i get a supercharger, lol. which i dont have the money for anyway. any opinions would be appreciated.

if u got the dough in hand, put a deposit on a turbo kit.

not worth 15k for a minor upgrade like that tho it would be nice to have a S.

Take the 15K and put it into the turbo, and other performance mods.

Who would want to turbo a four door Acura sedan? Even with a turbo the car isnt gonna be FAST. You want fast get a Corvette Z06 or Lexus IS F or M3. Dont screw around with front wheel drive four door cars. Not only that but its gonna go from one of the most reliable cars to the LEAST reliable cars with a turbo. Every mechanical part on that car will then be in jeopordy, not to mention its not easy to get a turbod car tuned right so chances are more often then not its not gonna run right. Dont waste your time.

The Type S is absolutely a better car than a base model 04 in every way shape and form. The rest is for you to decide.

Oh yeah and as mentioned. Hopefully your "driving fast" and "racing" isnt on the same streets I drive on.

Save your money!!! If you want more power and or speed do some upgrades but trading in your car and then owing an additional $15k for essentially the same car is a little backwards....

The type-S is NOT going to be that much of a HP increase to put Mustangs and such behind you. Like mentioned above, perhaps a REAL sports car is the way to go.

i would just trade for an all around better faster car since its speed your looking for and dont have the out right money to drop on a turbo or supercharger. i wanted a little more power and my supercharger more than did the trick for just 2k. i didnt need to get an entirely different car. but i wouldnt suggest trading in a paid for '04 tl for a slightly newer one to make payments for a little extra speed. that just doesnt make since.

P. diddy is just hatin because he has a 3.2L automatic, just kidding

As said above though, I love my TypeS, but if the price gap was 15k, I would probably pass, unless I was commiting to the TypeS as my next car for several years.

thanks guys for the comments, they are well appreciated, and yes, i dont street race, lol! guess ill have to figure out what i want to do. my father keeps trying to sell me his 05 mustang gt, that would solve everything, but i love my car. i should probably just keep driving it and not worry about performance and concentrate on looks, like a set of 19 inch wheels and an aspec rear or something, lol!

your best bet is to probably spend like 4-5K of that 15K you have and put the rest into a CD or money-market account. Use the 4-5K for the best buys for your money:

1. XLR8 J-pipe - this alone will give you a ton of torque that the TL is missing (nearly 30 WTQ increase b/w 3500 and 4500 RPM over stock!)

2. CAI - good way to gain some power and sound

3. Weight reduction - it's almost free! Take a look at the TL diet thread for some great Ideas.

4. Maintenance - you will need the timing-belt/waterpump/plugs servicing soon. It's going to cost you a bit, but it's well worth it.

5. Tires/rims - when your tires start to get low on tread (3/32nds) look for some good deals on rim and tire combo's, quite a few exist in the BM right now!

6. Looks - you can do some simple upgrade like the .99 cent chrome strips for the lower grilles, tint, TL-S tails, etc.

Keep what you have and buy a sport car if you want to go fast. Around here you can get a built domestic car with 600+hp for the kind of money you're talking about putting up.

How are you drag racing with a front wheel drive???
You can pimp up your TL much as you want, but it will never been as fast off the block when compared to a rear wheel drivers. You shouldn't be racing off the street anyways but that is besides the point. Whenever I WOT my 08 TL-S 6 speed, I have massive front wheel hop and torque steer. I will never drag race this thing. Why do you want to race a Mustang anyways???
That being said, TL is not bad on a road track. You can beat a mustang on a "track day" probably with your current stock set up (you may have to replace the nut behind the wheel though)
