Type S 6MT gear ratios

Anyone know the ratio configuration in the 6MT's? From what little driving I've done I'm guessing the gearing is 4 under/2 over. Anyone know for sure?

37 seconds to find this:

1st 3.933
2nd 2.478
3rd 1.700
4th 1.250
5th 0.975
6th 0.770
Reverse 4.008

Final 3.285

Yes, two overdriven gears. What more "useful" information do you need?

Thanks, man. I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer but can sense the sarcasm dripping. While I thought a board like this to be the ideal forum for them, I'll avoid asking such questions about our cars in the future.

Derrick...you will always find the occasional dick in here, a lot will scold you for not searching first. Use google and include acurazine in your search words. Most stuff has been answered at some point on here, after all, the newest 3G is now 7 years old. Happy Motoring!

It feels just fine to me. Engagement feels pretty much dead center on the way down. I ran the 'DIY slave cylinder removal' mod by my mech...he's been working on our cars forever...& he pretty well poo-poo'd the idea. Here's his email on the subject:

"I don't reall think that mod is going to help you out much. Most people don't launch thier sports sedans. Also Hondas are notorious for loosing their clutch disk torsion springs which requires cluch replacement and I'm curious if thats not the real reason behind the check valve. I think I'd drive it around and see if it's a problem for you. "

So I dunno. On the one hand I trust that this is a board filled with true enthusiasts who know & understand their cars - not just a buncha ricer-wannabes hoping that chrome rims and underlighting will net them 8 more horsepower. But on the other hand I trust my mech and he's a Honda-mod guy.

btw - weather has been crap here pretty much ever since I got back home with her, which is why there's been no pics yet.

The check valve delete has nothing to do with launching the car. It does however, make gear changes (esp quick ones) more "positive", so to speak.

IIRC, the valve is only around 40 bucks. You can always buy a new one if you don't like it after the valve is out. I don't think anyone who has done it has complained though. The direct engagement is so much better.

Our clutches don't have disk springs, the torque damping is done through the dual-mass flywheel. Stock Honda clutches are not "known" for breaking springs. Cheap aftermarket clutches, or boosted engine, yes, but not stock. Unless you abuse the daylights out of it.

I removed the check valve and I love the way it feels, no more delay when changing gears. My clutch used to slip when shifting quickly into 2nd gear before i removed the valve. Now it no longer does.

Check valve delete and switch fluid to GM syncromesh made this 6 mt tranny a night and day difference.

Shifter bushings should be next on your list and also a short shifter if you can swing that.

The stock TL manual transmission was definitely designed for a 50 year old.

And I launch my Type S as well. lmao

He's wrong (no offense). Honda added the valve to reduce driveline shock. I have the news article at home on my laptop. I've had mine off over a year now, with a decent amount of added power over stock and I drive pretty spiritedly and though I don't launch as if I was at the 1/4, I don't take off lightly either, and no problems thus far. The drivability and shifting is night and day difference, esp at hard redline shifts. Do it, you'll never look back.
