Tryin to make my 05 TL look badass
Hey, I don't know a whole lot about modifying cars and what not, but I am trying to make my 2005 TL look better. I love my car, but it doesn't look nearly as cool as some of the later models, or the TL S. I've been looking into some body kids and was wondering if I could get some opinions or suggestions. I found this one on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2004-...Q5fAccessories
Does anybody have this K-1 body kit on their TL? Pictures would be a huge help. Also, if you have any other suggestions to make my car look sick that would be helpful as well. Oh yeah, and I don't have a whole lot of money so the cheapest would be the best. Thanks.

The best looking body kit that won't hit you too hard in the pocketbook would be the OEM A-spec kit. If you've got a few more bones to throw, there is the Ron Jon kit, but I think you need to get those painted to match the car (someone correct me if I am wrong). OEM parts are already painted upon order.
I have the A-spec installed. Do a search on these forums and you will find several cars with the Ron Jon kit.

I think that in that first picture with the unpainted kit, that TL looks good. I don't think the kit is over the top. It would be nice to see something different for once. But they don't show what the rear looks like. Maybe ask the seller to show you more pics and maybe painted and mounted on the car

A-Spec kit and a drop would be the most expensive, but the most beneficial IMO.
A lot of cheaper DIY projects like blacked/cleared headlights, debadging, etc really help the look of the car as well.
Try to get a theme of the car before you start purchasing parts. What color is your TL?

Remember to, that most of all ebay body kits have no holes drilled in them and you will be spending close to a GRAND to get it painted and mounted to your car!! So I will Agree with everyone A-Spec will give you the best look for your buck.....

I'd have to recommend the A-spec kit as well. My '05 has the full A-spec treatment: rims, body kit, suspension, steering wheel, brakes and to this day I still get complements on it whenever I am getting gas or at the car wash. I installed the kit myself and it comes factory painted to match. Very simple if you have a buddy to help you out.

Hey guys I had another thought. I'm not sure how much lower to the ground the Aspec kit is, but I was thinking about buying just the front lip. Would this look bad without the side skirts and rear bumper? I dont really mind the stock rear bumper, and I'm not really sure what the difference is between stock side skirts and the aspec side skirts.

IMO, putting a body kit on a $30k near-lux car seems cheesy. I've seen the front A-Spec, front only and it looked like the car had three bumpers. It cheapens the look of the car, like its just taped there. I don't even remember how the back looks. But taped on would best describe it. I don't know its just not my thing I guess. This is what I did for appearance "upgrades"
1. Change the rear side marker from red to clear, matching the front one
2. New steering wheel matching the fake carbon fiber interior.
3. Front door key lock replacement.
4. Dark Tinted Windows
5. Obtain the original A-Spec rims.
6. Obtain the A-Spec suspension.
7. Get the "carbon fiber" sticker kit for the interior.
8. Get a new exhaust, but not the quads. Quads are for M3s, AMGs, RSs. Our car is none of those.
Nice and clean with a much better handling car. I don't think I'd drop it more than 1".
Just some suggestions and of course all IMO. :-)

Thanks Steven. We have the same last name. Im thinking about running the ronjon front, aspec sides and type s rear. I hate the ron jon rear. It looks goofy.

Cool Toddy (about the last name!). Tripn's TL is beautiful-I feel the same way about the RonJon tail. But Tripn's tails and tail lights are awesome.
By the way, Tripn-you need to join our Silver TL Social Group at:

it looks fine with just the front, but it looks complete with the whole thing. you can tell that the lowest part is the front, because of the lip, and that is also the only part that is flared out while the rest of the car curves under. i prefer the entire kit but if someone likes just one or two pieces then i say go for it.

This and the post with the picture of the back show what I mean. The place where the a-spec part and the car has a ridge. Looks e-bayish for me. Sides are nice though. Plus I have a SSM, so I'd rather not have a two tone bumper, well 3-tone. And the RJ kit isn't worth the money. Oh and I have a 2004, someone on ebay was/is selling something to place on the black plastic line on our front bumper, that may be something to look at also.
