Transmission "thunk"

I'm hearing a "thunk" after I back my 04 TL out of the garage and shift into D (5AT). Anyone heard this on your TL? Usually hear the "thunk" after I've gone forward just a few feet. Doesn't do it any other time. Other than this, everything else is fine with my TL.

It happens on my RSX. I don't remember what the explanation was. I believe it's normal. Something to do with the brake in the front wheels.

ABS test is all. Like a self test activation when you first drive it. Normal

Yup.. something along those lines.. It's in another thread somewhere about people hearing clanks when first hitting their brakes or taking off in drive at certain speed

I have to place this issue as the headline of Garage, too...

"Thump", "Clunk", "flap"... are all the same, not "click" (when hitting the brake). It usually will take place after your car sits more than a few hours. When you move forward again and reach almost 10 mph (check out this... by yourself) after starting your engine, you may hear this noise/sound once.

Normal... ABS is checking/working... except some tech discovers the new explanation for us...

I have never heard those sounds in my car - only the doors locking at 10 MPH. My ser# is in the 50's. I have alrady changed the ATF once (at 1000 miles), so I have a 40% alternate fill, and will do the second this weekend to get closer to a full alternate fill. Using a Z-1 spec'd synoil.

How's about turning off your feature of "auto-locking at 10 MPH"? Then, try it again next morning... let me know, please. Let's try to figure it out...

I'm sure some cars are quiet without any noise. Sometimes, my car would give me "thump" even though I just turn off the engine and restart it again. Sometimes, I won't hear a thing in the morning while driving out of my garage.

Roadrage...how did you fill the ATF? From the top through the dipstick ( rather small opening) or under neath the car at the trans filler hole. I'm thinking about changing the ATF in mine also.

there should be a 17mm bolt that may have atf stamped on it on the top of the trans. you remove that bolt and that is where you fill it. at least that is how you do the 2nd gen tl/cl and mdx.

I too have noticed this sound recently. It almost sounds like a motor/trans mount is loose and the sound is it shifting forward. Sometimes you can barely hear it other times it is VERY loud. I plan on making an appointment in the near future to have it looked at along with a couple of other things. I"ll post the findings.

I don't think so. I have two other Acuras with ABS and I know the sound that those make and it's not the same.

I'm eager to know what's the result your dealer says. Please keep us updated. Thanks.
