Trans prob with 2004 TL

Ok this is my bad, i meant to say that the transmission is an automatic with the clutchless shift option. when i am on even a slight incline up or down... the car rolls back or forward when shifting into fwd or reverse. like its loose or takes a min to catch. its not abrupt or noisy it is an AUTOMATIC but rolls like you are using a clutch. Normall for this Auto transmission or NOT?????

Gotta keep your foot on the brake until the trans engages. Now, if you put it in drive and it takes some time before the trans does engage, then there is a problem.

yeah man you definitely have to get a feel for it, you can usually feel when the tran engages with your right foot... since you are steppin on the break, and once it engages it shouldn't roll the opposite direction unless it is a really steep hill

Normal or not is the question... I can however say mine has done this since new (04 TL), and my dealership said it's "normal". Being both a personal and once professional mechanic has me questioning that however...

For comparison to yours, mine has a delay of no more than a second on the initial placement to drive or reverse. With any other trans I would say it has a pump/pressure issue but Acura claims it has something to do with the drive by wire system.. The only reason I have not complained constantly is because it has not gotten any worse (or remotely different) over the last 33K miles..

Not sure if thats what you wanted to hear yet should ease your worries a bit. By all means though question it through your dealer and see what they suggest.. I'd love to hear another "explanation"....

This is NORMAL.

I read it somewhere in the Garage in this forum. Something with the transmission that helps it coast and get better gas milage is the reason it can let the car roll backwards.

What you speak of may be normal but what I and I believe ruff is talking about is only during initial shifting out of park, not while driving. Its a slight hesitation before the transmission engages.

Dealerships two favorite phrases - "it's normal" and "could not duplicate" but it's usually 95% lip-service to avoid the topic...

Thanks for the info.... i brought it to the dealer and they also said that it was a mileage saving feature. they adimitted some people commented on the drawback of the car rolling a bit when shifting the Auto trans.

thanks again
