One Touch Start System

I have read on-line a bunch of article's that say that a new feature of the 2007 TL and S-Type have a One Touch Start System only on Automatics.

Ok not to be stupid I have a 2007 TL Type-S and have never seen a button or anything that resembles and one touch start system.

Does anyone know what there talking about?

Starting on 07s has been changed so that you do not need to hold the key until the engine starts. Turn it forward, let go, and the car does the rest. Not exactly a start/stop button. I don't personally feel a need for a start/stop button (to eah his own), but it doesn't seem like it is a very big leap from the 07 starting to a push button start.

Not to piss anyone off, but what is the big deal about push button starting? I just don't get it.

Perhaps I've been sold by the gimmick, but it seems like with a push button starter there is less wear and tear on the engine and the ignition.

Gimmick or not, it would be nice to leave the "keys" in your pocket for enter/exit and starting of the car.

Only problem I have with the push-button start is that you can't hook up a remote-start system with it, at least not after-market. If you want remote-start, it has to be a factory-installed option and it costs a fortune. Living in the NorthEast, it's really handy to start the car remotely a few minutes before you leave the house in the winter - leave your heat, defroster, and heated seats on from the night before and your ready to go as soon as you get in the car. I will say that it would be VERY nice to be able to get in and start the car without touching the key - I honestly don't know which I would prefer, but Acura made the choice for me....

I have it on my merc and its very convenient...walk up to the car and as soon as you touch the door handle, car unlocks, get in, foot on the brake press the button and you're ready to go...now a days technology is there for safety but also convenience ...can I live without it, sure...but when a toyota camry has it, I'd expect Acura to get with the program and put it in their 30k cars...seems to be that acura is just behind in general, with the TL atleast

I really wish the Acura did have the option. My dad has an E55 with Keyless Go and it is really nice to never have to take the key out of the pocket.

My friend has the smart key option on his 07 Camry Hybrid and I love it. Yep it's great not having to take the key out of your pocket.

seem like lexus is turning all of its vehicle into them 1 touch start button. but u know..with that type of technology there will be alot of issue later on when the car gets old..like bad battery and such or losing your receiver that is needed to use the one touch..

its cool and all, but i like the feeling of crankin my car..call me old school =)

Yeah my grandmoms Murano has the key thing but its not a push button start. Its like a regular iginition you just turn without putting the key it it. Very similary to what the RL has. As far as the push button its nice I guess but a regular key works just as well.

You missed my point... I love the car, but Acura has always been known as a cutting edge car, especially in the technology department. They shouls have been all over this with the introduction of the 3G TL!

what entry level car in the TL's bracket had it in 04? when did the 3er and the G get it? The IS had it in when it was introduced in 06. The Camry and Altima, redesigned vehicles had it for MY 07. The Camry and Altima did not have it in 2004.

I'm not sure when push button start started to appear, but Acura was in from the start with Navigation Systems, so I'd have expected them to be at the fore front with other technology as well. I'm not knocking the car, and inserting a key is no big deal to me. The TL is definitely worlds ahead of my pick-up truck, it's a great car, with loads of innovative features...

It's fantasitc and not a sales gimmick at all. It's what I miss most about my previous car.

Never had to take the keys out of my pocket, ever. Doors unlock when you touch them and you can start the car with the push of a button. There is a button on the outside of the door you can push when leaving to lock.

Have a wife? She can keep her keys in the bottom of her purse. You don't have to worry about unlocking the door for your wife first because soon as she touches the passenger door handle it unlocks (assuming the key is in her purse).

It's the only thing I wish the TL had and doesn't

As others have said, wait until next Gen to start really bitching. Nissan had a problem with some of their no key ignitions. I think something upwards to 200K were being recalled or bulletined.

I used to want keyless start, but I don't want to have to deal with the potential of someone cracking the code and stealing my car, like Beckham's BMW, and the potential for the signals to cross and the system not working. Now I dont really mind using my key. It is sad that the Altimas and Camrys have it and the TL doesnt though.

I don't really get the whole turn and go thing since i dont really even have to hold my key when i start my 06. At first when my friend was explaining that his 07 type s had it i thought he was crazy, but i guess its true!

I never said there is anything wrong with the Altima, in fact, I'm seriously considering the purchase of the new Altima Coupe. But, comparing the price of an Altima to a TL, it just seemed like the TL would have some of the convenience items that are now standard on the lower cost Altima and Camry. And, I realize the Camry and Altima were just re-designed, and the 4G TL will most likely have it, but how tough would it have been to adapt it to the 06/07 TL and keep them cutting edge. You don't need a complete make-over to add a button to the dash, or even use the keyless turn start already on the RL! I'm not bashing the TL, just making an observation...

Hey guys - thanks for the explanation. I guess it's really just an extension of having a remote to unlock the doors - no one really had those 20 years ago, and we'd be lost without them. When was the last time anyone put a key in their door to open it?

I didn't realize all the push start's out there were passive.

Thanks again,

gurney

I think Acura was a little behind the ball when it cames to keys and such...

how long have they been using the old separate remotes and keys? Even Honda cars were getting integrated key/remotes when everyone else was getting it, while Acuras were still separate remotes.

The MDX is new ('06 or '07?)...I hear that does not have keyless ignition.

Not to sound like a tree hugger, but this is a complete waste of gas. Cars warm up when driving much quicker. They don't warm up quick when idling.

And, they warm up even quicker when they're garaged overnight! I've never had remaote start, but also have had the luxury of having a cozy garage to keep it in.

Some of the rods connecting the ignition part with parts that start the engine are too long, so the cars sometimes don't start properly, Nissan said. Occasionally, the engines start even when the ignition is turned off and the driver moves the steering wheel, it said

indeed. even if it lacks refinement...

on the Honda v. Toyota issue, I think Toyota is indeed ahead of Honda in many ways. I mean I would not buy an avalon or a camry over a TL. But a GS350 AWD.... mmmmmmmm

Toyota is a bigger company - with a broad market and a maniacle focus on innovation. Honda is a smaller company with a determination to do things "the Honda way"... not bad, given the impressive car lineup, but not on Toyota;s level..

Toyota innovates on every level, from parts design, distribution relationships, to marketing & positionions...

BMW, MB, etc... well thats a different league

*positioning...

and full disclosure: I am a TL owner and I love the car - its the car for me. I am not a Toyota envangelist or anything... ive just spoken to a lot of lexus owners and have driven a few of em myself... interesting thing is a lot of lexus owners are previous or current Honda (or acura) owners.

Exactly! I love it, and had no idea the TL didn't have it. I've been contemplating a TL-S vaguely but coupled with FWD I'll have to say

I'll gladly take not having to fish my keys out of my pocket (or her purse) vs "that cranking feeling". I've been doing that for over 30 years, and the Cobra satisfies that need.
