Exclamation Transmission issues

I really want a 4th gen TL but may have to get a 2nd gen instead just due to what I want to spend. I have heard they have transmissions issues. what is the feedback on this? I need something super reliable.

It all depends ... you'll get a skewed sample of people who have had experienced transmission issues on this board. I read somewhere Honda has about a 5% failure rate on transmissions for this generation of car (2nd gen TL / CL and V6 Accords of this age) which is significantly higher than other models.

I mean, if you've got the money, then go for the 4th gen. Personally, I don't like the look and I do find them to be a bit on the bloated side. Perhaps a 3rd gen would be a nice compromise?

Just a thought. Good luck on your future purchase.

you want super reliable- get a nice accord or other honda
want a warranty you cant beat and a decent little car- ck out kia

avoid a gen2 TL at all cost!!!! that 5% failure rate is from years ago- before they had to replace all these trans over several years~
the total replacements by now are much higher, and all but a very select few are past the 7year+ 9 month limit on the extended warranty

be aware of the 105,000 mile service,,where the shop removes 1000-1500 dollars or much more from your wallet

Then your in the wrong place.

I was gonna say, 4G to 2G is kind of a big $$ difference.

oh its very reliable = one day its going to quit on you!! maybe not this month or this year but at some point...

be aware gen3 04 05 used essentially same trans as gen2 and got no extended warranty!!
the auto trans has our prob, and gen3 manual trans of the first few years have 3rd gear issues, and often face early and expensive clutch replacement- Ive heard from 800 to 1500 for clutch job
It has a special feature that makes it feel good right to the last shift it will make--and wear out other part$ in the process
