Angry Train Derailment

Ordered 6MT / Navi on December 6, 2003. On Feb. 23, 2004 salesperson finally called with VIN number and told me my car was in transit and could be picked up in about 10 days. On Feb. 27th received a call from the sales manager that the train transporting my car DERAILED and my car and 21 others were damaged beyond repair! These cars were for Dallas and Houston area dealers.

Still waiting! Anyone else told this story or was this BS??

If it is true, "OUCH"! But, wouldn't you hear about in on the news?

Train Derailment in the News

I have searched Google and other search engines in the past week and no train derailments in Indiana (was told this was the state it occured). If anyone hears of anything please post info.

Thanks.

Well, the best thing to do is to call other dealerships in the area and try to feel them out -- ask them if all deliveries are on schedule or what might hold them up.

If you don't mind me asking... which dealership told you this? During my vehicle search, I noticed some inconsistencies (information) in when dealing with a couple of the dealerships in the Dallas and Houston area.

A train derailment that doesnt involve passengers or injury might not make the headlines! Especially out inthe middle of nowhere

Last September American Honda recently named Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) as a premier business partner. So if there was a derailment, chances are it was with BNSF.

Press Release

I could not find any recent news on BNSF derailments. Although thare quite a few with Union Pacific. :wow: I also checked the Brotherhood of Locomotive and Engineers and Trainmen website for recent derailments. Found no information there either.

sounds like that dealer derailed the sale of your vehicle to someone else for a higher price...

If you are doubting the story, ask your dealership for proof. Tell them that you haven't found anything out, and that your sale depends on it. There should be a letter from somebody at Honda/Scura about this, not just a phone call.

However, if it only was a phone call, have your dealership connect you with a person "in the know" at Honda/Acura.

I saw a picture of a derailed cargo train the other day in the paper, don't know where or when , just remember the picture. I was reading a New York paper(Newdsay). Try Newsday.com.

Just call other dealers-2-3 month wait for a car?! Unless you are getting >$2000 off of MSRP, just try to get one at other dealers.

This is about a BNSF train derailment on 2/23, but it says it was carrying clay and was in south dakota. google news is a good place to look for obscure recent news stories.

Thanks for everyones help and suggestions but my dealer gave me a loaner car (Red RSX 5-speed) to use for 5-6 weeks until my "derailed" car could be built again. I guess the story was true or they would not have given me a loaner for such a long time. Hope to get my TL in late April.

Glad to hear that your dealer is owning up to your deal. Have fun with the RSX until your TL comes in. I did see that Union Pacific had a derailment in Arizona on Feb 3. There were two carloads of vehicles that got damaged. I dismissed it because it didn't fit your timeframe and it occured too far west, but who knows.

While lurking on a-tsx.com I found a related thread. It looks like a derailment has happened again in North Dakota. No TL's were involved but as many as 300 TSX and RL were damaged.:wow:

Bronx,

Which dealer are you working with, is it Sterling-McCall? How was the purchasing experience, and did you feel you got a reasonable deal?

Yes PhilB, good guess - it was Sterling McCall Acura on the Southwest Freeway. Based on the fact they gave me a new RSX loaner due to my 3+ month (and still waiting) wait I would recommend this dealership. They are fair and want to make customers happy.
