Traffic Alert Option

I called my buddy at the dealer. He told me some very interesting information. I hope this is not a rumor. He told me that when they have the option for traffic alerts for the 05 Rl, the dealer will make it an available upgrade for 04 TL owners who want it. Anyone else hear of this. Also, when is the upgrade for our navi's coming out? How much?

I haven't heard about this, but I hope it's true. This would be an invaluable addition to our navi.

I second neuronbob. I ever called to Alpine/XM/Acura ACS/Acura dealership and tried to get info about this a month ago... they told me nothing...

I'll do it right away if it's really working well.

IMO, this seems upgradable with some additional device or chip, plus the XM premium service. This will make XM more valuable.

If it is a software/firmware upgradable option it sure can happen. It it is hardware upgrade it will be more difficult to do but still can happen. Either ways if it happen it will be a good option to have and I'll have it for sure.

Thanks for the info J Ride.

I'm hoping this is the case and even if this is just a rumor I'm glad it is at least a positive one! Technically there is every reason to believe it could happen with our current hardware. If all they need is a software change or any hardware changes can be done through the expansion slot then we'll be in good shape. I'd get it in a flash!

I'll be the first in line, Imagine, being able to avoid roads that have contruction through Navi. What an amazing time to live. I can't wait too see some more technology in 10 years from now.

One of the reasons I really went for the TL is the technology. The TL with the HFL and the VC for the audio, ac, and navi is at the forefront of where cars are going. IMHO within 5 years, we will be able to eliminate nearly all the buttons in a car and do all the functins with voice commands. JRIDE it is an amazing time that we live.

Well, today, there was a major accident around I-495 near MD/DC. When I turned on the XM channel for traffic info near DC, my NAV screened displayed this:

"TRAFFIC JAM FACTOR YELLOW
I-495"

I guess this is good enough for me as I don't have to deal with traffic problems to get to work.

I have not heard this, but I would not be surprised if it's true. This is the "Killer App" that would make me want to subscribe to XM.

While this is a great feature on the RL, the caveat is that it will only be available for big city markets initially. I remember reading this when previes of the RL first came out. I'm not sure what they consider "big" metro areas, but chances are it will take a while for most of us to be able to take advantage of this feature. It would still be nice to have but I would double check local service availability before paying hundreds of dollars for a possible upgrade.

Interesting how Atlanta and a couple other cities were just added to XM Traffic & Weather on August 1.

lindros2's post just reminds me of one thing, is this real time traffic/Navi/Premium XM system only working in those cities/areas having XM traffic & weather?

Cool, I never pay attention to this screen before. If there are multiple reports, will your Navi screen switch and show all of them?

rets:

I am not sure. I usually get onto I-270 for about 3 min before I exit. But, I didn't do so this morning thanks to the NAV message. Unfortunately, two people died because the big truck fell on its side on the top of two cars. Horrible!

Thanks for your update above...

Novice,

I tried to tune to Channel 211, New York City at 7:58 PM tonight. It shows

Category: Traffic-Weather
Name: Jam Alert
Title: GOETHELS BRG

Maybe because there was nothing major, so the system didn't display any big news on it.

Well, I should try other cities and see if this XM system could play new tricks for me... :o
