Did you finance or lease? Put any money down on? How many months left? If you paid cash-then your in a better position. Are you trading in or selling privately? I'm sure there are a couple of other pertinent questions but until we start here I dont think anyone can give you an accurate opinion.

The TL-S's are going for about $10,000 more than the current value of a 2005 with 17K miles.

Probably closer to $11K.

Excellent
$27,925

Good
$26,475

Fair
$23,880

New TL: 37-39K out the door.

KBB Trade in values... Dealers hardley give you the "Excellent" rating, unless they rape you on the purchase (i.e if you buy "under invoice", you'll be lucky to get $23K in trade, but you'll thik you got a good deal). You'd be much better off Carmaxing the TL.

You're in college dude. Take an economics class, that's a bad deal. The chicks won't notice the difference either.

I couldn't say it better. I see a lot of people doing this trading their 05's even 06's for this type-s. If I were you I would keep the 05 ( it has only 17,000 ml) and the money down for this type-s I would buy RJ's kit and rims and make it look better than the S.
Just an example. I went for oil change to the stealership and when the car was ready they had the type-s and my car behind. Guess what, about 90% of the customers were around my car.

just my thought

Tim

He's gonna finance the whole thing baby... It's the American way. Dig yourself into such a financial hole that you either have to:

1) Live like a college student for 10 years after graduation. Make friend with IKEA, casue you'll have nothing nice in yuor house until you're 30.

2) Get so extended on credit your parents, who want to retire early, can't, because of your irresponsible spending.

Be glad you have such a nice car provided by your parents... Do them a favor and not dig a deeper hole to dig you out of. Save that money for a Master's Degree.

I wouldn't go for a new one if i was you....because u will have to pay like at least 12,000 more,i dont think it is worth it....

I have an AcuraTL 04 with 30,000 miles fully equipped with DVD,NAVIGATION,IPOD and more stuff and i would have to pay 13,000 if i wanted the 07 TL....so i decided to keep mine...and i am loving it

I made the switch from an 06 TL to an 07 TL-S and would do it again in a heartbeat. My TL-S is the best car I've ever driven and it makes me happy every time I get in it. My monthly payments only went up by $40 a month and since I'd only made 4 payment on my old TL I didn't consider it a great loss.

Now - with all that being said, I have to agree with the above posts. Keep what you have for now and enjoy the nice stuff later when you can truly afford it. You have a great car and the added debt may come back to haunt you. just my

sorry to jack the thread but i have the same question too, I have an 05 TL Black on Black I paid 10,000 dollars up front for the car, The dealership said he'll give me 29,000 dollars for my car, for trade-in is that a good price? for my car? and I have about 26,000 miles on my car, Think acura will lower price on the TL Type-S?

How much do you owe on your car? I'm assuming you still owe +/- $17,000 on your current car. If they're giving $10,000 over that then you are getting your original investment back...

But...

You have to look at how much you've invested in your current car. Not just mods but also every payment (toward principle) you've made. If you look at both of those numbers then you'll know what your true $ loss will be.

If you trade in now then it'd be similar to a lease and you have to be willing to let the equity established in your current TL go.

Then take into account the fact that you'll be getting a new car with no "wear and tear" on it and decide if the $ loss you're facing is worth the renewed peace of mind and enjoyment of a new car.

I think it's a good price. I got $28,500 for my 06 TL with 5122 miles on it. Mine was an auto with the rear trunk spoiler and back-up sensors.

What are the dealerships quoting you for prices right now? My 07 TL-S with summer tires was $36652.14 out the door. That includes T,T & L and delivery costs.

And to add fuel to the fire. I was offered 29.5k TRADE IN on my 2005 TL aspec navi, this was within 3 months. (Obviously it will be a little lower now) Mind you they were probably buttering it up a couple k with the purchase price of what I was interested in, FX45, I just didnt end up liking the FX enough.

I just traded my '06 TL auto w/navi, 9500 miles. Had to work hard to get $28,000 out of the dealer here in central Florida. First offer from them was $25,000... for an '06! This was on 12/30/06.

My two cents is for an '05 TL AT w/Navi, 17,000 miles, anything over $26000 is a gift from the dealer.

Remember still some NEW '06 TL Navi going for below $30,000...

Jonathan - Based on your expeience, it looks like the difference was slightly over $8,000 for your particular situation. That's great but also is probably not typical. Did you have the A-Spec package on your '06?

What was your ACTUAL price on the TL-S, not the OTD price? Since T,T&L varies in EVERY state, why don't you provide us the price you paid for your TL-S WITHOUT the T,T&L so that we have something substaintial to compare. Also, what does your TL-S have on it? Any of the A-Spec peices (we assume not based solely on price you've outlined but that's OK, we just need a better reference)

Are you saying you bough the new TL-S under invoice and they gave you over the KBB on your trade? If you got $28.5K for you prior vehicle then your Taxes should also be reduced by that trade in about and you therefore should have only had to pay taxes on the difference. Maybe that's the way you got this low figure. Inquiring minds want to know.

the choice you made will benefit the dealer, the buyer of your old car, but you'll be out 10k+. If it makes you happy....and you can afford it...then do it.

be glad you have a TL in college. I had some pos 80's subaru station wagon that leaked oil like a sieve, looked like a rectangular metal box on wheels, and had go kart driving properties. It hauled all my shit back and forth from college and did get good mileage though. I imagine I would have been squashed like a paper bag in any accident though.

I'm in ageement with everyone who says keep the car. Enjoy it man, you've already got a sweet car. Do well in school and on graduation maybe your parents will cover the difference on a trade-in for an even sweeter 2009-2010

I've briefly considered trading in my 06 for an 07, mostly b/c of the AUX input, fog lamps, RL navi, etc. But then it occured to me that I bought my car for a very good reason: it's a great car, and my only complaints about it stem from what it doesn't have that the new model does!

You've got it good homie, best of luck on whatever you decide to do though

Regardless of anything else - i have an 06, and I'm Glad that the TL-S is not that big of an improvement. I'm not the least bit tempted to upgrade to a TL-S. For that matter if you asked me to trade my current modded 06 straight up with an S, I'd have to think about it (I really dont like that front grill + fog lights + higher mileage). It looks like a patchwork mod job of an 06 rather than a new model. The 4g is what I'm waiting for, everything beforehand will be a waste of money, because you'll probably trade an arm and a leg for that 4g when it comes out and regret pulling the trigger beforehand.

No A-Spec stuff; just back-up sensors, the trunk lid spoiler and less than 5,000 miles.

I'm away from home for the weekend and to answer your questions exactly I'll have to look at my bill of sale. I'll send you the info your asking about when I get back home.

My TL-S is stock minus the summer tires.

Dealer invoice on a TL-S with summer tires is $35,956 - I paid very close to that and I received a large tax credit from the purchase of the 06 TL.

KBB on my vehicle was $28,615 - I got $28,500. This took a lot of haggling.

I realize that not everyone will have the same opportunity that I did and that's why I tried to explain to Aznpersuasion what he should be looking at besides the trade-in value and the sticker price of the TL-S.

If you have the means why not... you are the only one that fully knows your financial situation.

I bought an 06 TL, just a few months ago since I got a great deal but now I am thinking maybe I should have gone with a TL-S. Oh well.

I thought of trading in my 05 TL when I first saw the look of the new 07 Type-S.
I went in today to get an oil change at the dealer and the sticker on the Type-S in auto was $38,9xx.
I don't think it would be a smart move, and I'm happy with my car for now.
It's crazy how you do a few upgrades and it just makes you fall in love with the car again. Just get the A-Spec kit and you'll fall in love all over again...

Me... I'm waiting for the G35 Coupe for a possible trade in (but that's another story) or better yet if the Skyline is under $50k then GT-R you will be mine

Under 50k and I'll join you, everything I've read says north of 75k.

When I talked to the dealer I told them I wanted a Type-S white on black of course this time instad of black on black, They offered me about the same price I bought my car, so about 33,000 So I want them to drop it down some more, cause I bought the TL from this guy and he alway's helped me with alot... I told my sales guy that I want the same payment with no down payment he said we could work something out

I don't know the dollars, but when I sold my 06 TL I sold it privately on Autotrader.com and had numerous offers in about 3-5 days. I sold it for about $2500 more than the dealer was offering so it covered the extra sales tax I had to pay and still gave me $1k more profit, best $59 I spent on a car. I sold it too fast or I could have proabbly gotten my asking price, I discounted it $500 off asking price to move it fast.
