Traded 04 TL >>>

After 6 visits to the dealer service department in 4 weeks, I decided I didn't have time to keep up with the problems of my 04 TL and decided to trade it in. It was such a great car, but too many 'hick-ups' for a "luxuary class" car. Acura lost me on this one, never again. Anyway, check out the new ride, hopefully it'll hold up.

Well, you won't have to worry about seeing a lot of GTO's around. The sales have been so slow on that car. I hope it works out for you. Good Luck.

Good luck with your new car! Are you sure you did the right thing?

sorry to hear you have so many problems on your 04 TL. however, all cars have problems and so will the GTO. dont blame you from staying away from another acura. if it was me, I would not have gone to a GTO but to a 05 G35x.

What GM did to the GTO and it's owners this year is exactly why I gave up on GM 10 years ago.

I feel sorry for all the people that bought the 350hp GTO the first year it was out. Why??......GM screws over all those buyers by throwing the 400 hp engine in it the very next year. Watch, next year they'll restyle the car completely and screw over the '05 owners too.

my opinion is same as most others here. i wish you good luck with the GTO but their reliability is somewhat questionable. maybe going from acura to lexus or infiniti would have been a good change. but a pontiac??

04 TL for 05 GTO
From one DGP Camel 6MT owner to another, what kind of 'hick-ups'?

The only battle I have going on with Acura these days is over rattle issues.
What's your VIN?

BTW, have you looked at Consumer Reports Frequency Of Repair history for Pontiacs and GM's in general?
I would have traded in for an '05 TL.

Too bad the GTO's styling doesn't match its performance. It looks like a Tiburon

Best of luck to you. The best thing going for the goat is it's small blcok Chevy engine; one of the best gasoline engines ever designed.

Have fun!

I have an 05 auto w/nav and not one single problem yet. I waited for 05 because I will never ever ever buy a first year car again. I don't care what it is. I wish you much luck with the Pontiac.

Good luck with the GTO dude. I was disturbed to hear that it shares the chassis with the Cavalier and that it's built in Australia. Not sure how accurate that is, but that was a turn off for me.

I'd still like to test drive one though.

Good luck with the GTO! If you're happy, that's all that matters. You definitely got a lot of HP there!

near luxury

The TL is near luxury... It is a high performance accord (global platform). I agree with the person that it is a great car with too many issues making it a less than great car if you ask me.

I enjoy the performance for the buck, but when the stock acura parts cannot handle normal wear and tear for how the car is driven, then it is time to look elsewhere. Sure all car makers can have a problem, but some are not fixable...it goes to the design and engineering..or lack if it..

Sorry to say.

And where else do you go if you want to spend 34k for a a sedan that performs well...

I heard stories of people lowering the car and putting on 18-inch wheels which caused more rattles. Adding more power by adding headers, etc... more stress on the Tranny etc...

a goat huh. I was thinking maybe the person would go mustang GT.. they are tough to find..

oohhhh nooooo he bought a pontiac!...haha...please.

the gto is an awesome ride. there are plenty of haters on the GTO, but i think it looks good in person, especially the interior.

"cavalier chassis", "first year of the new gen"...no, and no.

I happen to like the GTO, so I'm not one of the haters. I heard from someone who knows alot about cars, that it was a shame that it was built on the cavalier. I'm glad to hear that it's not.

Have fun with the GTO. It probably drives great, I really like how they did up the interior. The only thing with the GTO is that its next redesign will probably look 10 x's better. Sorry to hear ur problems with the 04. I love my 05. I am weary from past experience of buying a first year of a new gen.

Nice looking car.....but downgrading??? I agree with everyone that said u should have tried(i hate 2 say it)...a G35 or Lexus or hell even a Volvo.
The last GM car i owned was a 2001 Monte Carlo SS. Talk about problems.... 19000 miles and going on 3rd tranny so i sold that thing in a hurry and got a 03 TLS loved that car.....sold it and got a 05 best 2 purchases i've made so far. (besides my house)

Get the New CLS!!!

Yes the CLS has been reborn.. However, it is now a Mercedes with a 7 speed AT and a 5.0 V8... I suggest you pick one up if you got the means... about 66,000 twice the car for twice the price

there is a 469 HP version as well

The GTO might have more problems than the TL... American quality isn't the best, if you wanted more quality, I would have gone Lexus or Infiniti... a buddy of mine bought a GTO... the fuel gauge did not work. They didn't fix it till about 2 weeks after he had the car...

Good luck to you though

I don't blame him

He didn't like the service per luxary car which I do not blame. The dealer who handled my transmission was extremely sub-par for luxary. That said, he probably won't notice much different in the service-level at GM but I'm sure he also is well-aware he isn't buying a "luxary" car. I highly doubt I'll own another Acura either.

While I'll agree Lexus would probably have been a more logical step based soley on quality, they don't have anything that appeals to me. That's just me. Inifniti is nice but overpriced IMO.

I think he did good. He'll enjoy the nice 6.0L LS6 a hell of a lot more. I enjoyed the LS6 in my '01 Z06

Anyway good luck burr. You will need to be prepared for problems. I had 2 fuel sending units go out in my Z06 within a week time period at about 29k miles. I got rid of it before the warranty expired.

This is hilarious!! People!!! hahahha, I hope all of you know that the Acura TL is built in UNITED STATES!!! The reason the TL is having so many problems is because it's 1st year model, and built within US... by going from TL to GTO, you will have some problems... all cars have problems... BMWs, Benz, Audis... even lexus..

But if the guy likes GTO, he should buy it to each its own! But just keep in mind that all cars, new or used will cause some problems...

to be perfectly honest ... the most reliable car I have ever driven was the 2002 Honda Accord coupe (Special Edition), I drove that car for 3 years and not a single problem, not even a tiny bit of rattle... quite honestly.. after getting into my 2004 Acura TL... I kind of missed the perfection that Accord had...

good luck with GTO and take some pictures :-)

Actually, the GTO would be Australian quality.

That said, I dont necessarily see the trade to be downgrade (outside of the marques). The GTO is arguably the best Pontiac I've ever been in.

With its LS2 putting out 400hp/400lb-ft, Burr's miles per smiles ratio just increased dramatically. Good luck Burr. Enjoy your new ride.

I'll keep my opinion of the GTO to myself but it sounds to me like maybe the "hickups" were used as an excuse to trade the car in.

I test drove the GTO this past summer at a GM event and was bitterly disappointed. It was one of the few cars that GM has out that I wanted to drive. The auto was actually much better than the MT since the stick and clutch on the MT were poor in my opinion. The GTO has a great engine, but not much else going for it from what I could tell.

I also came from a family that bought lots of GMs in the past, and I can happily say that I will not buy anymore (or at least until their quality improves drastically). OK, maybe I would buy a Corvette. But quality wouldn't necessarily be a concern for me in that case since it would need constant work from being at the track all the time anyway.

I've had a few minor issues with my TL (EL-42s, rattles, etc.), but they're minor and I expected things like this from buying a first year model. My Prelude had a few rattles when I first bought it. But I had them taken care of and then had another 7 years of problem-free motoring. I can't say the same thing for any of the GMs that I have owned or driven.

Sometimes I doubt some of the people in these forums...I just feel that they start threads just to create conversation because I just don't see this as a logical/practical decision...going from a TL to a GTO...

Sorry to say, but I really question the integrity of this matter...I'm not sure whether you actually made the trade...if you did, then I apologize for what I have said above but if you didn't, then

If you had mentioned that you traded your car for a Lexus or an Infiniti, then I would probably "buy" your story...but with a GTO, ummm it's very difficult for me to understand (and just about everyone else who has responded to this thread)...

I don't think I have time to reply to everyone's post, but I can reply to the theme. To me, it's not really a downgrade. I'm missing somethings here and there, like driver positioning (which didn't work), butt warmers (which were faulty at best), oh and about 130 hp. lol, just kidding. I looked at all the cars that you guys mentioned, G35, infiniti, etc., but I was mostly allured by the 400 hp. More to reply later, must go now to work. Did I hear a shout out for pics earlier? Working on it.....

Guys, I am missing something here...what is the reason for getting a car with so many HP unless you do street racing for a living ?Paying a lot of money to give up on luxury to HP seems to me a bit...ah well...no comments here. The ideal case is when you find a near perfect blend between luxury and power and IMHO this is what defines our TLs.
