Touch Up

Anyone ever use the products from PaintScratch.com?

I'm tempted to try this myself. I've already got 2 places on my rear bumper and one on my front bumper!

Any experience out there?

I actually bought a touch-up pen from EBAY from a guy named Serf21...this was recommended to me by someone else on this forum. The pen is an Acura Canada OEM pen with the color on one side and clear coat on the other. I was happy with the results. Hope this is the kind of feeback you're looking for.

Does anyone know if Acura sells small touchup paint bottles? I know that GM did it years ago, and when I purchased my 02 F-150 a few years back, It came with one as well.

Thanks

For my 2001 Saab, I would use the OEM touch-up paint (in a nail polish like bottle) and found the touch-up paint quite easy to use. However, it would require multiple coats as usually my chip or nick would be quite deep and not filled in with one application of the touch-up paint.

I'm guessing that multiple applications would be required to fill in a chip/nick.

Just my $.02.

This pen that I mentioned in a post above worked well and is an OEM product from Acura Canada...I think it is easier than any regular touch-up bottle/brush combo I have used.

They've got pens, bottles, and spray cans with primer, paint, and clear coat. They've also got rubbing compound, etc. They ask for you VIN to match the paint and claim a better match than OEM touch up paint. They're definitely more expensive than a bottle from the dealer, but we're still only talking about somewhere in the $40 range for everything.

I might give them a try. If I do, I'll post the results.

Thanks for the info. I just bought on of those pens from him just now. How's the results? Looking at the pictures, the tip of the pen is kinda fat. I have a hairline scatch by the driver side door about a couple of inches long but it's very noticable. It's bugging me. Will this pen make it disappear? I'm scared that the excess paint will actually make the scratch area look worse. I have a bottle of touch up paint which I've had for a long time to use on our other cars but have been putting it of because of this. I guess I will try this pen out on those cars first. Good thing all our cars are NBP.

BTW, I paid $14.99 for that pen, for those who are interested. That includes shipping from Canada.

My salesman gave me a bottle of touch-up paint when I took delivery of the car. It looks like a nail polish bottle. I have not used it. The form I signed when he gave it to me said something like $2.50.

I hope this helps.

I have read that the touch up markers from www.autovisuals.com also do a good job.

I'm about 80% satisfied...the application was very easy and effective. The only issue is that my car is WDP, and the touch up just cannot give off the same pearl effect. Otherwise, I'm very happy with the product. Hope you like it too.

touch up

For everyone local to the South Bay area of Southern CA, I recommend Doug's Body Shop on Normandie north of Sepulveda on the East side of the street. It is also South of Carson Street. This guy does a great job with everything he does. Best part is he is priced very reasonable so for the small jobs that you might try to do yourself it may make sense to have him do it. He did my wife's CL side mirrors for $35 . Check him out. Please tell him Bruce with the new TL referred you so he will take good care of you. He also worked on my Honda before I sold it recently.

I usually order a touchup kit from Ultimatetouchup.com. He makes up kits that dealers use to fix up used cars. For about $40 you get a bottle of color, a bottle of clearcoat, two syringes, a bottle of special surfacer, a squeegee, and special cloth. The paint usually matches better than the stuff the dealer supplies and with the syringes you can just fill the nick but not get on the surrounding area.

Not sure if you were answered... But the answer is YES. I too got one free from my Acura dealer. I would go back to your salesman and have him "make it happen".

Me too. Go ask our sales guy it like a two buck item.

There was a post about using touch up somewhere on this forum a few months ago. I recall it mentioned another item to blend the surface after the touchup is applied. Do a search on touch up.

One piece of advice would be to try a tooth pick for small nicks. Its easier to apply than the brush.

Otherwise try one of these other kits.

Only problem with touch up is if your like me you want it to come out perfect. I had a spot on one car that I kept working on and before I decided to quit it went from a small nick to something about the size of a dime.

I have learned my lesson.

Good luck.
