I had a friend down here to install a new radiator in his GN, what fun. Spent 4 hours due to a bad fit. I'm pissed I wasted half a day working for free, not to mention that I got conned into buying the radiator too.

We decided to take it out for some tuning with his new methanol kit. Got boost to 23psi and a good tune, the car was pulling hard. As was expected, if something went right, something had to go wrong and 2nd gear decided it wanted out or this life. Of course what do we pull up to with a limping car but a Z06, nice. In true ricer fashion I asked him if he wanted to do a 65mph roll which he was more than happy to do. I was curious because this is a factory stock motor from the throttlebody down. It has a bigger turbo and intercooler and exhaust.

So we floored it first, he pulled about 3/4 car while the turbo spooled. By 125mph, we had a solid 3 cars on him. Not bad considering these GNs are best from a dead stop. I'm glad it wasn't a C6 Z06.

C5 = 1997 - 2004 Corvette .... ranging from 350HP to 405HP... Z06's came with the LS6 engine, ranging from 385HP in the earlier years to 405 in the later

C6 = 2005 + corvettes... ranging from 400HP - 640HP

Base C6's 05 - 07 had 400HP from an LS2 Engine
Base C6's 08 + have 430HP from an LS3
C6 Z06's have 505 HP from an LS7
C6 ZR1's (new for 09) have 640HP from an LS9 .....

C5 Z06 is good for low 12s, the C6 base is slightly slower.

 

I agree. I've never liked Vettes because 99% of the owners are cocky arrogant old men but you can't deny the amazing performance.

The ZR1 is the reason my GN just got a new turbo and heads and is going on a diet. I don't want a pulley/I/H ZR1 outrunning me.

 

Are those the same engines the CHP puts in their camaro's?

 

Unless the CHP is interested in investing an additional 5 - 6k in their cars I doubt it.

Chances are they are The LS1 with a few performance parts. The engines are very similar with a few slight differences, Cam/heads/slight differences in the block.

BTW you can get an 11 in a stock C5 Z06 if you walk on water! There is one or two guys on Vette forums that have done it!

 

Drag Radials+ driver mod and perfect conditions. Driver mod is the hardest though.

 

I remember putting a cocky C5 owner in his place in my buddy's mid 11 sec. Syclone. I started talking smack to the guy at a light saying my buddy thought his little pickup could take him down hard. He laughed. A few keystrokes later and some ridiculous amount of boost was hissing at full song. I just remember a quick chirp, my head whacking the headrest and then practically bunnyhopping to 60. That guy was disgraced to the point he pulled off on the first sidestreet. Priceless.

 

There are also C6 Z06's running high 10's but it's freakishly rare and is mainly dependant on track/weather conditions.

 

zr1 corvette put down the fastest time around the nurburgring then any production car in the world 7:26:4 just to put that in perspective, the ferrari enzo is somewhere around 7:30 flat i believe and the fastest car in the world, the bugatti veyron does it in 7:40. This new vette is sick, i wish i could trade my zo6 in for one.

 

I don't know, if I had a Z06 when I was 18, I think I would be content.

yea, no doubt, props to ZR-1 for being able to put down all that power to the rear wheels only and still be able to be faster than the GT-R. It must be very embarrassing to Porsche since its 911 is no match against the Japanese and American in its "backyard," the Nurburgring, especially it had always been proud of itself for offering more performance for less money than Ferrari and Lamborghini.

to the OP good kill taking a Z06 down. thats something to be proud of them things are lightning fast!

with 620hp, 200lbs lighter, and a price tag of $100,000+ it better beat the GT-R. personally i think the ZR-1 is disgusting . i think chevy made the car look too "race inspired." OTH i think the C6 Z06 is a super sleek sexy beast! call me crazy but ill still take the C6 Z06 over the ZR-1. i think the Z06 is just really clean looking and who really needs 620hp, is 505hp not enough lol? would be nice though...

GT-R > Chevrolet? i think its more like GT-R ? Z06. personally i love both cars and would have sooo much trouble picking one. Z06 is a all out raw sports car while as the GT-R is like a quiet, laid back monster. Z06 has a better 1/4 mile time and the GT-R has a better track time. in my book they are both unique equivalent beasts.

japanese and american auto makers definitely walked all over germany's "backyard" but lets see what germany will bring out next because they will have 3 more japanese cars walking all over them (NSX/LFA/GTR-Spec V). i love it when auto makers step up their "game" its better for us consumers!
