TMPS Concerns

I posted this on the tail of someones else thread in the wheel & tire forum with no response so I'd prfer if its left here for a day or so so I can get a response.

I'm about to have winters put on my stock 06 rims that have the TPMS sensors ...

It says care should be taken removing the old tire ... care as in ? .. Should the bead be broken at or opposite the sensor?

What other issues should I inform the tire shop to look out for?

And what about mounting the new ones .. care .. concerns?

Please don't say " Take it to a good shop they will know how to deal with it " because I live in a tiny town and they don't have the volume and exposure to higher end cars with TMPS etc .

I did a search .. no luck ..

When I put my RJ 19's on they took the valve stems out of my stock rims and put them in my new rims. As easy as that. TPMS works fine, reads TP on my information display and everything.

Ya I'm using my stock rims .. was more concerned if they had to watch that the tire machine might hit the sensor when removing ... installing the tires. Or is it tucked out of the way enough?

They should know that the 06 TL has the sensors. I would just point out to them about the TPMS. If they look at you funny, find another shop. There shouldn't be any trouble switching out the tires.

If you already have the tires, you could take it to the dealer. They charged me $96 to mount and balance my new Apsec's.

No they just know what to do. When I first started my car when they put the Apsec's on. The reading showed 59psi for all tires. Once I got going they started to read the correct psi. I put new TMPS on my Aspec's. I left the old ones on the OEM rims.

I got them from the dealer when I bought my Aspec's. Sometimes when can find some in the Black Market. If you need some, get with Tim at hondacuraworld.com, he should have a pretty good price. I got my rims from Acura of Las Vegas, he gave me a better price for rims and TMPS shipped.

Ok update ... breaking the bead isn't a problem .. what has to be watched is when removing the tire start where the valve stem is so it is pulling the tire tight on the side opposite the sensor.

Same with remounting you should start opposite the stem ... shop did it without issue ..

Thanks, just ordered from them yesterday. About 34 bucks a piece, just ordered 4 of them so I can have either set of rims on my car and maintain TPMS.

Even the most experienced shops will still happen to nick a sensor from time-to-time. A very experienced shop nicked one of mine. They broke off a major chunk of the outer plastic housing of the TPMS. But, it still works fine. This was approx 6 months ago. The circuit board was not damaged , just the outer covering cracked off.
