TLs in Puerto Rico
We were in sunny Puerto Rico to warm up from the misery of another Boston winter.
I only saw 2 new TLs there (one had an A spec kit).
In the paper, they advertised the cars come with 4 years of scheduled maintenance included.
I know cars are pricey there due to shipping and a limited sales network.
The list price for an auto (no nav I think) was over $46,000 (ouch).

Damn you really have to be rich there to buy a TL. I wonder what the damage would be for an RL....

TLs in Puerto Rico
$46K sounds about correct. That is what I paid for mine... and is NON-NAVI.
Difference is TAXES, TRANSPORTATION AND THE DISTRIBUTOR MARK-UP which I think is higher than its supposed to be. It includes all preventive maintenance up to 60K miles, but as I told before, I strngly believe I'm paying like 7 times for this maintenance.
Anyway, we are used to see cars from $5K to $20K higher in PR than in the US.

Mis amigos, que pasa?
As a puertorican and owner of a 04TL, I shoulg go forward and
explain how it works here in this special caribbean island.
As motor vehicles are imported into the island a special tax of aprox. 15% is added
to the U.S./Japan price + the Dealer markup. Yes, cars are expensive, at least in comparison with the U.S.
I can tell you guys there's a lot more than 2 TL' s around the island.
PR easily should have a TL population in the vecinity of 200 cars...maybe more.
My TL has minor problems, primarily regarding rattles, and very subttle vibration on the steering wheel. EL-42's hydroplane like hell...specially where it rains heavily amost every day.
And no, you don't have to be rich to own a TL in PR.. leases do wonders.
You would be amazed with the amount of Mercedes, BMW's, Audis, Porsche cars that
roam our streets every day.
Hasta la vista..

15% doesn't sounds that bad... In Indonesia the tax is almost 100%... You could buy 2 Merz in the US when u buy a Merz in Indonesia...
Singapore is another country where the tax is really high on cars...

In PR the excise tax covers all cars (real pain in the ass) just a matter of life. Buying it in Fla is a solution, but the car has to be more than one year old (read used). Furthermore, the acura dealer in PR is terrible, big markups, poor service department and so on. Yep I always find it funny how much money people back home spend on cars, its sort of the SoCal phenomenon, people are extremely car concious that is despite potholed roads and constant bumper to bumper traffic. Actually I test drove the TL in San Juan just as it was comming out of the boat a couple of weeks before it even you could find it around here in the midwest, the sales girl that took it out on the test drive with me was one hot mamasita

I am glad that there are some TLs around.
Where we stay in Rincon, there do not seem to be many high end vehicles. Certainly not the Dodge minivan I had (it had the same miserable EL 42s on it we have).
At least to counter high vehicle prices, electricity is super cheap. I spoke with a couple with a small vaction house and their monthly electric bill is about $1.80 and that is not a typo.

$1.80/month for electricity? I think you are mis-informed. I pay an average of $150/month for electricity. Like someone say before, we have a very creative bank industry - they do wonders with leases.
