Truth is they are both right.

What has changed is the way HP is measured. It used to be at the flywheel, and now it's elsewhere (I forgot...somebody help). In any event, the HP has not changed, just where they are measuring it.

Is it horsepower to the wheel now?

But yeah.. same power, different numbers

I think the 5AT puts less power to the ground than a 6MT..

The best way I can state it is that the new measurement standard levels the playing field by clearing up gray areas such as amount of oil in engine when tested, grade of gas to match owners manual, exhaust back pressure at a certain level etc... read this and you may get a better idea:

^^ true and if the way hp was measured back then applied nowadays, the stock 07 TL would still be 270 and the RL would be 300hp.

They measure it with all accessories attached to the engine. A/C, P/S, and so on.

This is actually VERY incorrect. The measurements are STILL taken at the flywheel. The only difference is the WAY they measure it. There is still loss of additional power through the transmission so the "typical" HP "at the wheels" is typically around 212. The rating system "allowed" Acura to state the HP as 270 in 2004 and 2005. In 2006 there was a new SAE rating system that mfgs would have to adopt "in the future" so that everyone would measure the same way. The ONLY thing that has changed is that EVERYONE now is "suppose" to use the EXACT SAME measurement system so that 258HP form Acura is the same as 258HP from Lexus or Benz or...

SAE net has always measured hp with all the accessories attached.... That happened when they moved away from SAE gross to SAE net decades ago.

The current revisions just add more clarifications. (I don't know specifically what, but that's what I hear)

Agree but with 2006+, they have the same engine and equal output so today, either horsepower quote could be used....specifically, the rating changed, nothing else.

Confused yet?
