TL would not start

My 04 TL didn't start this morning. It has only 4500 miles on it. The dealer has it right now. It had to be towed away (sad site). Has anyone experiences your tl not starting at all. It wants to, but it just never turns over. Hopefully I can get some resolution out of the dealer

Funny you should mention that......happend to me this afternoon. The car sat last Tuesday - Saturday, but was moved once Sat. afternoon and then sat again on Sunday. I got in it today (Monday) and it cranked but never started. I jumped it with my wifes car and it has been running fine ever since. Just weird. I called the dealer and they reassured me there were no TSB's on it, but now that I'm reading this I wonder if more folks aren't experiencing this issue.

Had mine crank and not start the other day. It started on the second try. It often starts rough. It makes me worry about it not starting since we are just getting to winter. Half the reason I buy new cars is that I don't have to worry if they are going to start or not.

Check the battery terminals.. sometimes the oxidation on the terminals interferes with the connection between the battery and the cable.. I had a similar problem with my old Civic- all I did was pull out a special piece of sandpaper which is meant for this kind of problem and rubbed the terminals, reattached the cable, and it worked great.. I also loved how the terminal color changed from a brownish to silver..

jbmacle, your problem is definitely out of the ordinary and should be at the dealer, please keep us posted on it.

For the others in this thread: the TL is occasionally difficult to start, and when it does, it can start rough. This is because of the emission controls that allow the car to be a ULEV. You have to crank it longer when it exhibits this behavior. There are MANY threads on this, and it's addressed in the 3G Garage.

Me also...took it in and they didn't find anyting but every once in awhile, especially during the hot weather, it had some trouble (2-3 seconds to turn over)

Hopefully it's an isolated problem, and do keep us posted.

I had the exact same issue! The car appeared to be still receiving power from the battery (all interior lights worked, radio worked, A/C worked etc) but simply would not crank at all. I too had to have it flat bedded and dropped off at the dealer for service. I received word that the battery was defective and they swapped it under warranty.

Seems to work fine now, but it took away some of the fun. It happened to mine with 2500 miles on the odo.

i had the same problem not too long ago also... i took it in and the dealer said it was the battery so they replaced it... but the problem happened again last week.. i was taking the car in anyways for a difffernt problem and i had them double check that battery problem again.. but yea.. they said it was a bad battery at first.. so i guess it might be the battery?

This is what I found out. They said that nothing is wrong with the car. It started right up the next day for them(but it sat for 24 hours before they even looked at it). They did diag on it and it came back with nothing. I mentioned the battery thing but they said they've never heard of that. But the checked it anyway. They said nothing was wrong with it. My car starts up just fine now but the dealer still has it and there checking with the acura manufature to see if they have any ideas. I will keep all of you posted.

Got my car back. The dealer said that the only thing that they thought it could be was that I immobilized my car. I don't know, that didn't sound right but I guess it's possible. I'm not sure how the immobilization works, but I would think that it would disable the car, and the car wouldn't try to turn over. I don't know. Anyway, the cars running fine now.

If an improperly-coded key (or other device) is used, the Immobilizer System will allow the engine to turn over, but it will not start because the fuel system is disabled.

There are some examples on page 81 of the Owner's Manual for why the car may not start. This may be what the dealer meant when he said you immobilized your car, so read up on it and see if anything said there applies to you.
