Probably a chip, full exhaust, and a good driver would put the A4 ahead of the TL. Turbo=Potential.

I saw a video and I cant find it...it was a 97 a4 1.8t with upgraded turbo and chip and some more mods I cant remember and was making around 250-270whp against a 2003 stock M3. The m3 got a head by a fender then neck and neck until the a4's turbo kicked in and just killed the m3. Im searching for the vid, I;ll post it when I find it.

The US Audi’s only got top of the line engines, but in Europe engines in A4 ranged from less than 100HP and above. If that A4 had only normal 4 cyl 1.6 engine I am not surprised with the results.
