Ok as a nearly fully modded tl-s I haven't raced one, but I probably can't take it.. So I know you lost by atleast 10 cars

I would bown down to any Bimmer ending in "35i". Not to mention they can spend about $1400 on a management computer that bumps them up to 400 hp...

Its got the same engine as the 335i, meaning an underestimated 300 hp, its more like 320-330 and it comes at very low rpms. Did you really expect to have a chance? The TL is by no means a slouch, but at the same time its by no means a fast car. If you want to go out and race and at least get a little respect, I'd suggest getting a ctsc or getting a different car that serves your purpose.

are you saying that 535 doesnt have a turbo engine? Are you sure about that? 328 has 235ish hp so yea TL its faster then that. And a 535 IS a twin turbo motor and IS a bit more over 300hp and IS faster then a TL

I havent had the pleasure of running one on the bottle yet. Have more power and am still about 200 pounds lighter. I have taken down the 330HP M3's like nothing though. Those dont stand a chance. Dont think I would stand a chance against a chipped one though.

Same engine/output and only about 200 lbs difference between the 335 and 535. The 535 is only a couple tenths slower than 335. Sweet car, but I'd have to drive it and the 550 back to back.

same output and the performance between that and the 550i is supposed to be close. As I have driven the 550i and 545i, I also need to try the 535i (which was not out when I drove the other two). I understand that the 535i has similar performance to the 550i except without the $15-20k premium.

Actaully the 535i has a v8. The 1 series, 3 series only have twin turbos. 5 series, 6 series, and 7 series all have V8's, instead of twin turbos.

535i has a twin-turbo, 6-cylinder engine.
I wonder where you get your facts from

This topic always creates heated exchange on bimmerfest and e60 forums. 550i camps says it's a better car while 535i camp argues that it's a better "value". Here are some facts:

1. In stock form, the 550i is about .2 second faster than the 535i (BMW website: 5.4 sec vs. 5.6). However, I've seen MotorTrend gets 4.8 sec, 13.3 1/4 mile from a manual 550i. Technically, the 550i is as fast as the 335i.

http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/...est/index.html

2. If you increase the boost, the 335i/535i will be faster than the 550i (stock) although nobody has done a direct comparison. However, you can also remap the ECU on the 550i for more horse power (I did mine using Speed Innovation).

3. When similarly equipped, the price difference between the 550i and 535i is about 7 grand. However, the 550i gets the //M body kit as well as 19" wheels. It would cost $3500 to install the body kit for the 535i (parts and labor). By the time you throw in the 19' wheels, any price advantage is gone. This brings us to #4.

4. Buy the 535i if you'd like to save some money and/or want to chip it (Dinan, PROcede or Juicebox).

Nice 550. You forgot #5....there's no replacement for displacement! I bet the 550 sounds killer with an aftermarket exhaust.

no shit! I seem to remember it made sense when I was younger...330 was a 3 series with a 3.0L motor. Trying to follow them and Mercedes now is migraine inducing.

This is true in the past. However, I think forced-induction engine is the way of the future, more power and better gas mileage

I don't think most people buy four-door luxury sedans for street racing. If you're looking to floor it at every stop light, you're picking the wrong car.

Appreciate the TL for what it is, a dependable, fun and well-built sedan with good handling. There was a poll on bimmer website not too long ago asking what car to buy if you can't afford BMW. The majority picked Acura TL.
