Pop a A SPEC kit and some minor mods like the XLR8 J-pipe and UR Pulley and your Type-S would look like a beast!
Well, thanks to the plethora of forensics shows these days
, what are some of the thousand words the picture might be saying...
doesn't look like another vehicle involved...does look (as mentioned) like a pole or some other narrow, vertical object that would part the wheel and fender...maybe the same object then broke and fell, causing what might be secondary, crushing damage above the wheel...possible wooden material remnant on the passenger end of the front beam...pic looks like it was taken at the site and time of the accident...conditions are wet...AZ join date was just last month...
pic says to me: operator error/too fast for conditions/learning the car's handling ability the hard way.
Just a taking a guess before the OP gives his account (and I would take no satisfaction if I'm right in whole or in part.), because this is a forum and that's what you do. BTW, by operator error, I mean that in the most basic of ways, and not as a slam just yet. I can count on one hand how many accidents I've had in 23 years of driving (some minor, some major), but I've had them, because of my own operator error, either in judgment or during a course of action. I'm not flaming anybody, it's just a wild-ass-guess to see if there's any power in observation.
OP, I'm glad you're okay, and you should get another TL. So whether it was an act of God, dumb luck, someone else's fault, your own damn fault... you're going to take the subsequent replies however you want to, no matter what's written.

Terrible. I actually saw a bad accident a couple of days ago where an Anthracite TL was destroyed... you're not from Michigan, are ya?
Glad you're okay. If I were to get a new car, I would look at A4 and G35... and maybe some Hyundai's.

i'm not saying this was what happened here, but someone told me that TL's have been crashing a lot cuz they too fast and people tend to floor them a lot till the point the loose control and BAM!! So my suggestion, Better slow and safe than Fast and BAM!! but i'm glad you are OK and hope you upgrade to a TL-S.
Snow, black ice, street light pole/telephone pole. Considering the sidewalk is visible behind the vehicle, most likely he lost control and skidded into a pole of some sort and being a residential area, there must have been a turn and just lost it there.... again, inconclusive.
Like Chessie, gotta love them forensics shows!!!
on the real, glad you and your passenger are alright!

Most likely what happened. OP- don't be embarrassed about it. My neighborhood has some pretty sharp curves with light poles on them and cars hit them every winter. Funny story? Last winter a guy in my neighborhood took out two mailboxes in his S550 right by my house. Tard.
