Question Are TL sidemarkers illegal in CA

I was reading through the STreet Legal link from CHP. Note the legal color for the side markers. It says Yellow in the front and Red in the rear are legal. TL have white (i think) in the front, is it not legal then?

probably illegal. everything is illegal in california. i wouldn't worry about it though. if a cop pulls you over for that, just say that's how it came

The front corners are also side markers and satisfy CA regulations.

They are white when not lit, but when the light comes on, they are yellow.

You should be ok as long as you don't have Blue sidemarkers..which will definately attract a cop. Other than that..sidemarkers are perfectly legal b/c they are considered one of those lights that you "don't necessarily need."

the color of the sidemarker isn't important as long as the resulting blinking light is amber/yellow. and the sidemarker cannot be on constantly, only when it is used as signals.

as for tint. it's usually a fix-it ticket. have the tint removed, and swing by a chp office, pay a nominal fee and they'll sign off that aspect of the ticket.

Or take a pic. of your car before you get it tinted. That way, you'll have a photo to bring to court to show them that they are off. :diablotin

that way when you drive out of the courthouse they can see you? if you get a fine for tints, do you have to remove it or can you just pay the fine?

This is ridiculous.

All new cars have to meet all State regulations before they can be sold here.

I'd think you would be smarter and drive another car adam. Over here, you get a warning ticket..meaning, take them off asap. Then..if you get caught again, usually a fine ($100). Get caught a third time, cop will strip off the tint himself. This has happened to a lot of my friends that drive around with 5%'s. So as long as you don't have limos..you don't have anything to worry about.

we're referring to the sidemarker on the front fender next to the front doors, correct? those cannot be on constantly. they can only blink, and must blink yellow/amber.

as for the tint, you have to have it removed because the cop will come out and match your plate and do a visual inspection before signing off the tint-portion of the ticket.

i've seen a few new TL's on the streets at night and I don't see their sidemarkers staying on ever. so yours might be wired funny? *shrug*

they're not suppose to stay on constantly.

We had to make a special circuit to get them to blink. In stock form they're ALWAYS on with the parking lights. They do not blink unless you modify them to blink.

ah.. well, i stand corrected.

then if a cop tickets any TL owner for sidemarkers always being on and/or wrong color, then one needs to take it up with Acura and have them either recall and fix-it (which probably won't happen), or supply you with official letter saying that's how it comes stock.

As for sidemarker colors, the white is completely legal. The only colors that cannot be to the front of the drivers door are red and blue as those are reserved for emergency vehicles only. Yellow or white is acceptable, blinking or not.

"Incorrect color of turn signal. It must be white or yellow to the front, red or yellow to the rear (24953 VC)."

does that mean the signal lights next the the headlights? or just the sidemarkers?

"to the front" means anything in front of the driver's door
