TL-S vs. 98 Prelude

Did a highway race late last night 60-130. Raced twice, and beat him by a car length each time. His car has headers, exhaust, full 2.5 straight exhaust, and manual transmission. Also has brand new upgraded engine, but not sure the power put out. My car, in terms of engine is bone stock. I gotta say tho, my transmission is strong, especially 2nd gear which just pulls like a mofo. Anyway, at 2nd-3rd gear I shifted at 7500 RPM and then flew past him in 3rd. Good race. I get my headers put on tomorrow, so I should be beating him by more.

once you have headers make sure to get either a CAI or a K&N filter to take full advantage of those headers and you will destroy that prelude if you meet again. Is the owner of the prelude a friend of yours? I would ask want engine he had dropped in. That is pretty impressive he stayed that close to you in a 98 prelude.

You made it sound like it was in your car. Was it in the Prelude that you shifted at 7500?

Just before 7000 on the Type-S. The peak on the V-AFC II always shows somewhere around 6960 every time I hit the rev limiter.

The tach shows a little over though, from what the tach says its about 7200, could be inaccurate though

It's funny... when I installed the V-AFC II, it said in the booklet that the factory tachometer could be a little bit off and that I shouldn't rely on it. Instead, it said I should only rely on the digital read-out on the V-AFC II.

I think you read it wrong in the heat of the excitement. My guess is that you shifted at 6500 RPM. The redline on the Type-S engine is 6900 RPM and there's a fuel cut-off at about 7000 RPM. The computer will not let you rev above that.

Gauges usually display numbers beyond the limit. Call it cosmetic or whatever, but that's just the way it is. Same thing with the speedometer. It goes up to 160 mph, but the Type-S is governed to 147 mph top speed. At 147, the computer will cut off fuel.

Yeah - if I shift with sportshift at about 6800 it will actually end up shifting at about 7200 (shifting delay).

It is possible - I've done it myself - but I don't make a habit of it.
