TL-S = Wow
Hey lucky 3G owners. I was at the Honda dealership today, test driving a few cars for the wife, and there was a 07' TL-S on the lot so I decided to take it for a spin.
Wow. What a world of difference from the 4G. The car just felt... peppy. Quote on quote my wife says: "wow this is a happy car!"
For 29k...who knows, my wife might end up in a TL-S instead of a Crosstour

I'm still digging mine, 3 1/2 years later. For a 3700 pound sedan, it get moving pretty well.
I'm also still hopeful for 2012 Type-S. If they launch one, I'll probably be in line.

The best way to describe the TL (TL-S) is nimble. The steering feels like you are glued to the ground - the 4G seems quite electronic. And when using the paddle shifters even, there's a more pronounced shifting feeling unlike the 4G which is all smooth.
The only caveat is I'd want it in White or Black. The one I drove smelt like it'd been smoked in and was in Silver.

I'm relatively new to the Type S, but was glad to hear it compared favorably to the 4G TL. We stepped back into the Honda family, getting rid of a Mazdaspeed3 to a '07 Type S and was blown away at how well sorted and planted the car felt.
I can also confirm it's peppiness. About a month after purchase, I went to Road America for a vintage car race. During lunch, if you paid, you could "tour" the track behind a pace car. Apparently the pace car didn't get the memo as it turned into a "Track Day Lite". I was probably pushing the car 7/10ths and passing/repassing various cars. The Type S certainly held it's own! Granted, the brake life was compromised quite a bit and I certainly wasn't going to tell the wife I did that to her car. But it was all fun.

A little update on my end. It's down to a brand new Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart 2010, or the TL-S.
I just drove the Evo and Lancer today. Anyone who hasn't drove either should definitely give it a shot. Don't let the I4 fool you - the car has a shitload of kick to it. And handles like a champ with the SH-AWD-like S-AWC.
But honestly I don't think my wife would feel comfortable in the Ralliart. When the Turbo kicks in, it's a hell of a ride - and the NA TL-S feels quite a bit smoother.

Drifting
^ hey u can find a 07 TL-S alot cheaper than 29K! you can prob get one around 23-25K with low miles probably around 40,000 ... ive had mine 3 years this month and actually like it more than the day i bought it not many cars out there right now that i would be willing to trade into for the price

07 WDP TL Type S
ive had my 07 WDP TL-S only since may and i find excuses to drive it as much as i can. hell, just to buy the car i drove from massachusetts to virginia and back = 20 hours of driving in a span of 24 hours.
def worth it.

I might be wrong, but I doubt that Lancer will have the ride comfort, interior comfort and appointments or the overall fit, finish and build quality that a TL does.
I don't doubt for a second that it's a great sporty platform, but I'm betting it's less refined than the TL.
