From TL to RL....

I have an opportunity to trade my '05 Tl for an '06 RL. If anybody has made the transition from TL to RL are you happy with the RL?

I had an idea to go from TL to RL.
My 2 cents:
RL is much slower than TL
RL is roomier that TL
RL is build in Japan (big plus, TL quality sucks)
RL is for age 40+
so it is your call

The new RL is not slow and I don't think you will be disappointed. Although some do claim boredom with it.

vp911 made the switch, you might consider PM'ing him. He seems pretty satisfied with the RL.

I thought about trading up myself a couple of months ago, but decided to mod my car further instead.

It's all upto you in what your driving style is. they are 2 different cars. i drove the RL it's a nice car but not for me. Im not ready to drive a retired old man car. Not to mention it's not worth 50k its a honda not a Bmw/Mercdes If they made like 350hp and offered a 6 speed it might be a little more tempting

You may want to browse the RL forum, those guys seem to have all the same problems that pop up in the TL, so don't buy into that made in Japan stuff. I can't tell you have many RL threads I have read that finish with, " I can't believe I have to deal with this stuff in a $50,000 car." But I hear the SH-AWD is a monster, too bad it isn't an option in the TL..

If I remember correctly, vp911 is actually going to trade in his RL for 2 new cars: A Lexus RX330 and an is350..

There's a thread in Car Talk about it. HERE it is.

I take exception to this "40+" comment.

It's like saying "once you drive an RL you stop talking like this" (it is builD in Japan)

I stand corrected, thanks! Too bad the interior of the IS is so small.

Thanks for the input. It is certainly a stunner to look at, Premium White/Ebony with the A-Spec kit and wheels I haven't driven it yet 'cause that's usually the kiss of death for me. I think I will have to do some more research before deciding. It is pricey piece though....

the A-SPEC kit should make it more entertaining to drive over a standard RL

my friend just bought one 06 last week. i test drove RL many times. good car. pretty fast. lil boring like a perfect house wife. i mean perfect.

if u r an AT driver who drive pretty normally-fast and need occasionally 4wd (the damn best on the market right now IMO), it's ur car. we compared A6 3.2, GS300/GS430 (uninspiring interior and material felt cheap IMO) and LS430 (let me just say "Horrible" we all felt. and we finally understand what Lexus is all about). nothing touched it. not even close in our book.

however, TL brought a big smile back on my face when i was finally done for the day with "girl friend" shopping. ha. for what my friend needed, it's the best car on the market right now (he was driving a Q45). I don't think i am convinced fun wise. pm me if u want price info on 06 RL.

got to be kidding

the rl is much much roomier inside if you think the tl is your insane. the car is not boring its just more refined. ie. luxury sedan. not race car re think what the car is.

WE didn't trade from an O5 TL, we traded from the 02 TL, however we tested both RL and TL, and although TL was faster, the RL was simply better then it. The AWD system also gives it some nice handling, it's alot nicer in my opinion. We really like our RL A-Spec and dont' regret not getting another TL.

The only complaint I've heard about the RL is that it is a little "boring". However, at least 5 people have made the switch from the TL to RL. I would consider starting a thread on the RL site, and see what people say...

One of the major pluses that the drivers that switch state is in regards to interior quality. It seems to be much better in the RL.

I don't have the finances to consider it, (nor is it offered in a manual version). Good luck with your decision.

Actually....the RL is what originally got me on the Acura lot to even look at the brand....was thinking all Lexus before that, and havent regretted it one bit! I have both...prefer to drive my Acura over the GS.....too easy to win a racees in a GS400 anyway being its V8 powered....so I ended up giving it/letter her have/relenting to the pressure/letting her (can you feel my pain!) drive it instead as I liked the Acura so much. Funny thing now....she hates driving the Acura because it has "too many switches and gadgets" and I dont like driving the Lexus (unless I want to dog it out for some reason) because it seems too crude to me and basic.

Anyway, back to the subject......an RL is a good car and I find it hard to believe it couldnt be tweaked to go fairly fast like the TL.

Well, I did it...!

Thanks to all for your insight. I picked up my 2006 Premium White Pearl/Ebony RL on Saturday. And like many have mentioned, it is different from my TL (I guess its supposed to be...). Not quite as sporting as the TL is but quite a bit more comfy, and interestingly enough, pretty capable for what kind of car it is (I have the A-Spec kit minus the A-Spec wheels). It's only been a couple of days, but I am really enjoying it so far. No modifications are planned beyond a new set of wheels and tires. I guess I have gotten a lot of the "mod" fever out of my system.

Good for you! I think you had already decided when you first posted about it.
Hope the dealer treated you well and that you enjoy it.

Thanks! I was pretty much there. This thread, along with constant visits to the dealer provided that little extra nudge. I think that the dealer treated me very well on the price of the car and the trade in value on my TL. Pretty much made me an offer that I couldn't refuse. So far, I am really enjoying the RL, but I also miss much about my TL.
