IMO I think i'm going to consider it as an upgrade of the TL with more HP (and probably less "issues")

New GS looks monsterious to me now. New IS looks inflated sub-compact. I still can't get away with that image.

Lexis has tons of expensive options for things already standard on the TL and Toyota's V6 has a history of oiling problems. No thanks.

Hyundai is a shameless company with absolutely zero originality. They steal designs from world class automakers. The new Sonata looks like what would happen if a new Accord sedan slammed head on into a new IS.

Their late model hatchbacks look like Saabs.

The XG350/Amanti look like a blend of Jaguar, Mercedes, and Bentley.

I hate the company for this reason.. they have no original designs.

There is more than one V6 in Toyota's line-up, so before you make such blanket statements you should do some research. The sludge problem was specific to the 1MZ-FE V6 engine in the old ES300 and Camry. It appears that this particular engine is now not problematic and on its way out, anyway.

One thing though, how much farther are posh car companies going to go with this horsepower craze?? I remember when having 500 hp was the magic number back in 2000, now it seems all the super cars are doing it. Bentley, Aston Martin, and almost every friggin ferrari. Even the 35 to 70K luxuries are doing it. Whats the damn point?? My car already goes 100 mph in like 14 seconds... What do I need it to do 100 mph in 6 sec to get to work faster?? Honestly, what are they thinking. Most people with 30K plus to spend on a car are prob going to be in their 40s to 60s, and are probably going to be done trying to pull 130 down the interstate. its just going to get the point where ever Honda Accord is a race car stock lol.
Sarushibai - 350HP used to be the mark of an expensive car (You had to pay $70K to get a car with that much stock HP). So in a way, more HP=more wealth (in some people's eyes) and thus Greater HP = greater status. However, recently mfgs like Pontiac (GTO) and Chrysler (Charger) and etc... all now have 350HP versions of lower end cars (and thus completely deflating that prior false perception becase now you can get a 350HP car for $30K). Thus the higher-end mfg's have been subtily forced to increase the HP in order to continue that same power=status perception. That's why the $80K cars now have 500HP. The bar will continue to be raised but in the long run there are limits to practical HP in vehicles. As you stated, it's probably around the 700HP mark and we may even see a production car with that much HP in the next five years.

I don't think you can ever go wrong with a Lexus... I've had my ES300 for 12 years now with 165,000 miles and still runs great. But, when I bought my TL, I looked into waiting for the new IS instead, and now seeing the photos, I'm glad I went with the TL.

IMO, the TL has more style and character than the IS. The TL and IS250 are more of a comparison than the IS350, and between the two I'd still stick with the TL. I think everyone has it right when saying the BMW has more to be worried about than Acura. It'll probably take a pretty big bite out of Audi too.

car looks nice but one thing missing in the is350 is that there is no 6MT offered.

Front sucks, interior sucks... in comparison to my TL

however the back is hot, very hot.

Great specs motor wise, not worth $45k fully loaded. For that amount of money, the new m35 baby, and i think I would go ahead and drop another $6 or so, and just get the m45 fully loaded

No way I'm gonna spend $40+ for a fully loaded version of that car. When I get ready to spend that kinda money on a car, I'll be looking to get an RL or a M45. And besides, I've always felt that Toyota and Lexus are a bit overpriced.

But I'll give Lexus props on that car cause it does look good!

It looks nice, but for 40 large I'd be looking more at the M35/45. In fact, I'm thinking seriously about upgrading to that or the RL already.

No guys to be honest I like it, Think about it, I was one of the first A-spec owners on these boards at that time you payed full tilt for the A-Spec package also the car was going for a premium, I think out the door on My A-spec Navi TL with Tax I was at 41,500.00 To get that same hot syle with a 306HP RWD Paddle Shit car with Navi, I think I would have taken a look. Still I think the TL with Full A-Spec kit is the bomb I think our cars look so agressive when done right. You be the judge

Love the Is' exterior. Interior, especially the center of the dash, looks fair (in the pics it looks like cheap pleastic, maybe the material looks better in person) and the specs on the 350 are awesome. But the jump in price from the 250 to the 350 is too large in my opinion. Especially since the 350 does not offer AWD or a 6MT. I'll keep the TL.

Actually, if you look at it from the side, it looks very similar to a TL

More pics

More here:
http://www.fast-autos.net/lexus/lexusis350.html

Btw pricing came from here:

http://www.colexusclub.com/article34.html

And as they noted that is the speculated price for fully loaded. You can probably get the 350 for something in the mid 30's

Yep, even though I love what I see in the IS, I'm leaning back to my TL already. Anyone see Bluetooth phones mentioned anywhere? I may get flamed for such a small option, but damn, I don't think I could go back to driving around like a dildo with my head stuck to my shoulder ever again. Nothing like keeping my eyes on the road and my right hand on the stick when that sweet voice tells me "You have an incoming call."

Do you know how many people not on this board will never own a car more expensive than the TL? an Aspec TL owner is not the usual TL owner, and the price difference is almost nothing. But for someone who has the base non-navi model, the difference is alot of money, with not that much value for the additional 10K, except Lexus reliability.

So chill with the "BULLSHIT", because you're missing the point.
I agree with you here. $35K list price for the TL vs. $42K for the IS350? Those are two different ballparks to me, since the TL is already loaded. MY TL is our premium vehicle, and with the price of petrol and two kids to raise, I'm not really looking to buy a pricier vehicle than my TL, so when I upgrade my 2000 TL, I think it won't be a tough choice between the IS and to 3rd gen TL. The IS is a nice, nice car, but the Lexus badge asks too high a premium. Also, someone stated it's built on the GS platform. Given the size difference, I highly doubt that.

The IS350 looks nice, but I'll stick with the TL. $7,000 is a lot of money. It will give the 330i, which costs $42,000 loaded a run for its money.

besides the fact that in order to compete with a 6mt manual with the same equipment you could get an RL it is pretty nice. I still like our cluster and console more, but I would have to see this in black.

for me, it'll be a 10k difference. well, if i'd dish out that extra, i'd put it on a lexus gs300 or an infinity m35. then again, i'd have to view them in person.

This is a different ballpark to some, but as I have proven here, so far 80 out of 141, a clear majority, it's close enough for most of the voters here.

Also, doubt all you want, the IS is on the GS platorm but tuned sportier. Go to http://www.lexus.com/2006is_preview/index.html and click the Marketing VP's launch video.

The IS350 does NOT allow you to shut off the traction control system. I test drove an 06 GS430, and I have to tell you, I would never buy that car on that fact alone. Also, those pics are not production pics of the IS. The real production car does not look as good.

However, I applaud Lexus for joining the Horsepower wars with Acura and Infiniti. Now its time for Acura to step it up and raise the bar once again as they did in 2001 with the Type S.

I watched the video; twice. He says that they started taking the brand in a sportier direction with the GS, but he did not state that they're on the same platform.

The new IS comes with bluetooth. Even Infiniti will offer bluetooth in the next G35...its already in the M35/45.

They are both based on the concept car that they showed last year at the auto show. The GS was the first to use that chassis and the IS will be the second to use it.

I'll wait to see what the coupe looks like, 4 door cars don't do it for me. The TL is one that does however. This IS looks like an economy car in the rear, hate automatics, price is too much, you're paying mostly for the L on the trunk IMO.
I was hoping to like it more as I've always wanted a Lexus since I saw my first SC coupe in 92? Wow.
As a coupe only buyer I'll wait it out (HOW many more years!) for a new Acura coupe. The new BMW 3 coupe I'll look over too. But a Lexus IS coupe for $40k+ with no manual is...yawn. it better look as good as the first SC coupes and NOT like the current SC coupe.

I stand corrected:
http://pressroom.toyota.com/photo_li...?id=sp20050323

"Riding on a version of the new GS platform, the IS will be larger in every dimension than the model it replaces. It will share its basic suspension layout and design with the GS, although it will be tuned a bit more aggressively, and it will offer both 17- and 18-inch wheels and tires."

The TL is a great car...but overall, I would prefer the Lexus IS 350...why? Better build quality...to me, that is becoming more and more important as I am seeing the problems with my TL...also customer service...some Acura people are such jerks...and I highly doubt it that someone from Lexus would treat me rudely...ya, I may have to forgo a feature here and there and ya it's more expensive but then again, you get what you pay for

i think the IS looks badass just like the TL...but in the long run, I feel I would get more out of the IS than the TL (knowing the amount of problems I've had in 1 and a half year of owning the TL and hearing about others having similar problems)...don't get me wrong, I love the TL...I enjoy driving it every single day and it is one of the HOTTEST cars on the road...but if money wasn't an option, I would choose the IS350 instantly over the TL...

How about the new mercedes C350 sedan. Even though I know they are not cheap to repair, this car has 258 torque at 2400RPMs and 268 ponies...

It has the similar dual stage intake as the TL and a 7 speed automatic with two gears for reverse. I am not sure what the car will cost with all the toys in it, but it lists in the high 30s...

I think the TL will start having all kinds of competition. The G came a few years back. There is the M as well. Now there is a mercedes with more power. There is always BMW, etc.

And of course the new IS...

So many choices...

Ya, if I get an interested buyer, I may just end up doing that

However, I wouldn't buy the IS350 as soon as it comes out...I would wait till 2007 maybe...I learned my lesson about not buying a car as soon as it comes out...with the amount of problems in the 04 TL , I have learned to be patient...

Actually you are not really proving anything. The original reason the poll was setup was because I mentioned that the typical TL buyer would not also be shopping the IS. I never said anything about being able to afford one. The poll only asks if they CAN afford the IS. It does not ask if they are unwilling to spend that much or not, and most posts by people in that thread indicate that the IS is overpriced for them.
