Thumbs up TL Drivers - old?

How many of you have seen another ’04 TL on the road and was disappointed by the driver's nonchalant attitude towards seeing you in your ’04 TL?

I think this has happened to me just about every time I’ve seen a ’04 TL on the road so far. The drivers are either woman or older men (I’m 41) and they didn’t even acknowledge that my car was there. I’ve even given a thumbs-up to other TL drivers only to look stupid (kind of like having your hand up for a high-five, except the other hand never comes up). So now I’m thinking that my car is an old folk car and that is just the way it is – this stinks. This car yells out Steroids and yet other drivers are on Geritol.

In fact, I’ve gotten more recognition from other car type drivers than the ’04 TL drivers (namely audi, bmw, g35 & saab). The recognition came in the form of a ‘look’ or a chat at a gas station (usually like ‘yeah, I was shopping a TL too):worship:. I just wished that more of ’04 TL drivers would at least give that ‘look’ as I’m certain that all of you on this web site would. No biggy, this isn’t going to drive me to some J Walker – don’t really need an excuse for that anyway.

WOW!!!! Thats is exactly how I feel. I pulled up to a car wash in the next bay to an 04 TL and jumped out to give my fellow TL'r a big hug and ended up just standing there watching him drive off! I felt like my dog when we all leave the house...all excited and left looking at the closed door.

So I decided to start giving them the finger. Yup...see I figure atleast I'll get some sort of response.:thefinger

Actually I was a little concerned that everyone that purchased a TL was in their 20s or early 30s. There is another message thread somewhere on this forum that ask how old you are. I was one of the older respondents at 49.

Perhaps most of the people who respond on this forum are younger than the average / median age of TL purchasers? I haven't seen many people in my area driving TL's yet. I did notice a middle age couple (mid 40s?) driving a Redondo Red TL today.
Car looked GOOD in the sunshine!

Tell you what.... drive out to Pittsburgh, I'll notice you and high five you (we don't do hugs in the burg).

FYI, if anyone is trying to merger, turn on the main road, switch lanes........etc, I will always let them go w/ a friendly wave if they are fellow TL drivers (even though I don't have 1 yet, still waiting impatiently)

Well gents, they've sold about 35,000 cars so far, and there's probably 1% of those buyers that are active on this site.

I'd guess that the other 99% could give a sh*t about being friendly to other TL buyers.

I'll high five yah! I think the previous target audience for the TL was a little different and it's new styling is getting more peoples attention. Some "older" TL owners may not know of its significance. It's alright though, as long as they buy one, it keeps the market good for more TL advances in the future.

You fellow TL'ers are all right! I've always felt that age is just a number and not a state. I know that I'm 41, but still feel great and actually better since I now have some money (I remember being 20somthing and being financially inadequate). This is why I bought this car - mature with spunk. And, I thought this is the same reason why others buy this car (mid 30 - 50 and active). Well, I guess not all TL'ers are going to be like us - thanks for all the high fives.

Lots of riceboy's around here. Lots of lowered '89 Civics with neon ground effects. Lots of cleared lenses and noisy pipes on those '92 Accords.

Can't wait to dust 'em in the 'Cura.

Hello guys,

I feel the same way. All the new TL's I waved to are ignoring me or somthing. Actually they don't even look when I wave

anyhow, Age got nothing to do with acura ownership. This is my first acura and I plan to have it for long time.

I saw an 86 year old great-grandmother filling the tank of her A-Spec this morning. When I asked her why she got that particular car and that particular handling option package she replied "it was red".

If all goes well later on this year, I will be picking up a TL myself. Even at my current age range (24-30), I would still give a high five, make small talk, etc etc with other TL owners.

Even with my Accord Coupe at the moment, I get looks and some chat but I think with some of the stuff I've done to it, it may seem a bit intimidating at first...I promise, I don't bite. I like a clean look too.

To them, sometimes, 04TL is just another new car, first-year model vehicle. Nothing else. Maybe we don't need to consider ourselves in the right.

It's not because they're old, it's because they don't know you and they don't want to know you....even if you're a perfectly fine young man.

I am 72 and own a white/parchment non/navi, and I LOVE THIS CAR. The lack of acknowledgment has nothing to do with age. Old people don't think differently because they got older, so if they didn't wave when they were young, they won't wave now, and if they did, then they will. It is more a mentality thing. People nowadays don't know about the waving thing, some just want to be left alone, some can't see you because your windows are tinted, some have tunnel vision and look straight ahead all the time, etc, etc. So, if they're gonna wave, they will, regardless of age, race, color, creed, national origin, or what have you.

I have had my car a month now, and it was only in the last couple of days that I have seen two other TL's, both of which went by so fast that I didn't have time to flash headlights or wave. TL's go fast, and they are so new that not everyone recognizes his own grille coming at him yet, so that could be another reason.

If I see another TL in time, I will wave and flash and hope for a response.

I picked up my '04 TL yesterday after trading in an '03 350Z. I had the same reactions , no wave, when I drove the Zcar. Most of the time it was young kids who blew me off. I loved talking about the Zcar and will love talking about the TL too.
BTW I am a young 57

Don't think all old people ignore ya. When I sold Hondas, I sold an S2000 to an 87 year old man who said it would be his last car and he wanted to "die in style". He drove home in that car with his pilot goggles, leather flying cap and a scarf!

And let me tell you, he could DRIVE that thing quick! When I'm that old, thats how I intend to be

Hey I'm 57 and still a kid. Just a little slower on the draw..
I've had several performance type cars but this one excites me more than any other. (well maybe about the same as the old '63 Vette I once had)
I cannot wait for this car to be delivered. Bout 2 weeks to delivery day. WDP/Parchment/5AT/Navi. Came within a hair of ordering the NBP/Camel but I keep my cars and white will hold up longer IMHO.

then I honk!

Only once a next lane TL lady did not respond to my so I honked till she did . This will work everytime. If they cannot be friendly, you can be annoying.

yeah, doesn't it happen to you that you think you saw a TL, and when you get closer it was a TSX!
- I need to get new contacts!
I can't tell the difference from the front... (only from the back, + sides).

I make wierd faces at them and put both my thumbs in my ears and rolls my eyes round and round until the driver notices me . It will work 99.9999% of the time. They might get scared but it works just to get the TL owners attention.:wow:

My dealer mentioned that some of the older buyers were put off by the new styling and chose to look at ES 300. Oh well, that sounds good to me

I don't know about old but, the new TL is getting the rep of a "Q" ship thanks to Road and Track.. Consumer Reports and the
other car rags

The truth is Acura is going to sell a LOT of these cars so get used
to seeing yourself. For some this spoils the feeling of exclusive ness for some.

Some folks don't care to mix it up with the lot of you car freaks (count me in with the freaks too).

Some to the drivers , older women (forgive me) I have noticed seem just content to "cruise along" and not give up any acknowledgement to anyone about anything.. to busy with other things I guess.

I am officially middle aged and love
my new car's handling / looks / and POWER to say nothing
of it's 6 Speeds which is the #1 reason I bought. I am enthusiastic about my car.

I drive it with spirit and don't necessarily car if someone else driving their car doesn't return the vibe.

If I make eye contact and the other driver does not feel violated in some fashion a nod seems to do.

Lastly --

I resist the inclination to thrash most of the other "competitor" cars in the class, even though I can. I don't need risk damage
to myself, the ride or my insurance rating.

The new TL is not going to confused with any other car on the road for now.

Mutual admiration should be cultivated but....

We don't need others to validate us.

Be straight up, and be kind, enjoy your investment in one of
the best Acura's to come along in while.
