"TL Driver": What's the first image that comes to mind?

Knowing what you know about the TL, what is the first image that comes to mind when you hear the words "TL driver"? I'm sure the words would most likely conjure more than just one particular description, but I'm curious as to what your first reaction would be.

I put "Person of exceptional taste", but I really think the TL driver as one of the following:

a) Over-extended enthusiast (spends too much of available income on the car to get into the luxury segment to impress others) no flames please --- just an opinion based on observations.
b) Frugal enthusiast (spends a fraction of what others pay - compared to gross income - because they see the value f the TL v. much more expensive family sedans)

Just my opinion. Either way, I did include the word "enthusiast" in both.

Someone who can't afford a Maserati Quattroporte or a Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost or a Bentley Continental GT, so he gets the next closest thing to all of them.

Well, it looks like there's a virtual truckload of "people with exceptional taste" on this message board.

Well Scribesoft is not far off -- I am a TL shopper (Mercedes owner right now, but soon enough...) and i always find the TL a little bit neither-nor, It is luxurious and has a lot of toys, but lack some parts some shoppers take for granted, like electric tilting/telescoping steering wheel or a electric sunscreen at the back. And while most lux cars come with a 8-way passenger seat, the TL comes with only a 4-way passenger. It just seems like Acura was so intent to put in voice recognition and other electonic/high tech extras that they forgot the basic stuff for a luxury car.

I live in the Miami area. I have seen TL owners from living in trailer parks (no kidding) to buildings where the cheapest unit sells for at least half a mil. But thats the reality: some people will lease a luxury car to portray a picture of prosperity, while some will buy theirs and live within their means. Its the magic of credit and leasing.

Those are pretty fair points, as are Scribesoft's. I'm sure a large proportion of TL owners will take comfort in the knowledge that good taste and great wealth are not interdependent.

Personally, I was looking at an Astin Martin DB9, but I just couldn't get the payments into my budget.

lol everyone wants to think they have exceptional taste... I think people just need to live their lives through what they drive more so lately than anything else. And taste costs more in insurance, tires, brakes, etc.

I do not believe realtors drive those at all.. At least not where I come from. They have the mercedes or the escalade. The TL is turning into the family (wo)man's wannabe single again car. Or has replaced the kid racer ricer car. Or, the midlife I'll get a TL instead of the harley type thing.

It was the best choice...when I saw the thread initially, I thought the choices would include middle-aged woman and 30-something yuppie man, among others.

There is a member who is a realtor. Around here, they drive minivans and Caddy's, though. The last little bit there (bold) seems to be the case, unfortunately.

Don't throw stuff at me, but in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area, most of the TL's I see are driven by women, and some of my friends have even referred to it as a chick car when I've mentioned it. I personally think it's a beautiful car, with lots of "guy appeal", but facts is facts.

I therefore had to vote "real estate agent". (No hate mail, please - I just report what I see.)

exceptional judgement

I selected "person of exceptional taste" in the survey, but I really meant person of exceptional judgement. Honda/Acura tends to produce products that are not the fastest, the flashiest, the most or least expensive, etc. What they do produce are products that have the best overall balance of style, performance, cost, comfort, handling, efficiency, and durability (AT5 3rd gear clutch pack being the exception).

Even my honda motorcycle, a CBR1100XX, was not the fastest, lightest, or flashiest bike I could have got. It was above average in every category though, and the fit and finish made it beautiful to look at.

I always feel like I am getting the best overall value for my money when I buy something from honda/acura. This is what will probably keep me coming back time and again.

I vote for "idealist"- I couldn't get my ideal car (BMW M-5 for $10,000 that never breaks...), so I went with the next best thing... OK, maybe the "exceptional taste" label might be applied here.

exceptional taste in machines

I think 3rd gen tl owners are people of exceptional taste and have an eye for style,I'm 70 years young, have a two place airplane that I built and have flown for the last 10 years and fly regularly, also own a 03 tundra limited, have had the 06 tl for 1500 miles and love the style, electronics and especially the zippy v-6,tried the Lexus, beemer . they were lacking in eye appeal and performance

I voted masochist, just because it sounded like fun. Hm...maybe I shouldn't have made that public.

I'd say taste.

Can't really call myself a hondaphile, cause I'm a BMW person... but for the time being BMW design went down in flames, so I had to jump on a new nicely designed car, with a lot of cool gadgets... oh, and a sweet blue dash. ;-)
