tiny nicks - touch up paint?
tiny nicks - touch up paint?
hello.
i just polished and waxed my car again this weekend and noticed a few nicks on the hood and front bumper. definitely rocks from frequent highway driving! nothing big and noticable, but I know its their and its bothering me. haha. only saw it after i removed some dirt around it.
anyone know a reliable touch-up paint that would do the trick.
two sites that came up were:
paintscratch.com ($30 for Tri-Coat Touch up) and chipmender.com ($12 for Tri-Coat Touch up). anyone tried these out?
ALSO, my mom's car got a ding on her door. not deep or anything, but slightly horizontal. looks like someone either opened a door or a shopping cart. but she asked me if i knew how to get rid of it? has anyone tried the as seen on tv thing? is it even worth it? dingkingtool.com
how much would a ding/dent place charge for something like this?
thanks for your help.

Unless paint is sprayed in order to atomize the droplets, no touch-up paint will ever match too well. Keep your expectations low. If you just fill the chip and allow the level to match the surrounding areas, it will be OK. As for the dent, take it to a professional dentless repair center and let them check it out - chances are, it will have to remain. I dread the first door dent - I will do all I can to prevent it, but, one motel stay will probably "do it in", so to speak.

she wanted to know if there was a trick to repairing them. her car is leased and its hard to shell out money everytime there's a ding. didnt know if there was a solution to getting them out, such as the dingking. but from what i read, its not a good choice.

I had a number of aftermarket paint specialists including ChipMender mix paints for my Silverstone Metallic S2000, but the Honda touch up paint turned out to be the best match - and I have found the DGP from Honda is also excellent. It varies from color to color, but those are my experiences. I now have $50 of unuseable "special" t/u paints sitting in a drawer somewhere.
Here are a couple of tips for application:
1) You must remove the wax and silicone first - mineral spirits or rubbing alcohol work well
2) Get a glass-fiber brush to "rout out" the chip so it is clean and free of irregularities - they are sold at many auto stores and trade paint suppliers.
3) My favorite applicator is this: take a paper match, vut of the ignitable tip, and then cut the remaining end into a "V" shape - this gives you pinpoint control, while being easier to hold steady than a round toothpick, which is
4) use a toothpick for the really small areas.

road rage:
thanks for the advice. i also read the matchstick works well.
only thing is i don't think acura came out with a touch up paint yet, except the pen you can buy from ebay. is your honda paint a pen or bottle?
do you actually prefer the pen or the bottle? i think chipmender sells the pens for $12 and paintscratch.com sells them for $30. not sure which route i should take. not sure if the results will be the better/worse with the more $ one
