Just curious, do these films wrap AROUND the tails or are they just on the surface... will this hold be strong enough?

They just cover the surface, but make a very strong bond when done correctly.

Your car is black - go with the darker tint - black it out baby!!! Check my avatar... I got my set off ebay from "evo tint shop". It's just basically thick film cut out in the shape of the taillights. You have to stretch it a little to cover the whole light assembly. I only expected to get a few months from it considering I only paid $27 for the kit, but it lasted thru NYC winter and is still going strong. It doesn't block the light from the tails that much that you need to worry about people not seeing your brake lights...

Thanks for your input guys I appreciate it. Im slowly tryin to get stuff done to my car. I have two Image Dynamic 12's with a couple JL 1000/1 amps. Hopefully I'll get some nice rims preferably black and some other stuff. JetBlack your TL looks tight with those tail lights.

btw, the tints from RB isn't the same as window tints. 35% is darker than 20%, where as window tints 20% would be darker. FYI

You tinted TL-S tails? Why? I thought only the 04-06 TL people did that cause they had solid red units.

To each his own I guess....looks ok though! Oddly enough....I bought the rockblocker film for my stock tails....never put it on...and just replaced them with TL-S tails when they came out. I still have that film sitting around too....lol. Never even used it. I should put it in the black market on here and sell it....cause I am not likely to ever use it.

I'm going to drop a bomb here, the easiest and cheapest way to tint tails is with Oracal (brand vinyl) series 8300, dark grey. I've used this on at least two dozen cars, all the people that sell "kits" online do is make a template for a car, scan it in, and use a plotter to cut the vinyl to a shape just slightly larger than your tails, then sell it to you for 20-30 bucks. well I bought a 10 yard roll of this stuff for about 20 bucks, and I've done my tails (back in January, and they've been flawless ever since) and about 4 or 5 various other cars, and I still have half the roll left. save money people!

I would go with the lighter tint as well. The lights shine through with no problem. I have followed some of the guys with the darker tint and the brake lights are harder to see in bright sunlight. Could be dangerous! Easy way to land you a ticket. I do have to admit the darker one looks better on colors like NBP!

I agree with SRT-11. The precut ones aren't precisely fit for the tails, they are a bit oversized. You have to do a bit of trimming with an exacto to get it perfect. Buy it in bulk, it's a much better value. You can do more lenses on more cars that way and still come out cheaper.

Google is your friend man. Also, Oracal is the brand, 8300 is the line of vinyls (they have many many), and Dark Grey is the color. It's actually not that dark rockyfeller, there are much darker ones out there but they aren't Oracal. The Dark Grey is the way to go IMO

oh yeah, another cool thing you can do with that vinyl (if you get good with it) is put it over chrome trim to make "black chrome" looks pretty cool.

what do you guys think about tinting the rear side markers as well? I was thinking it might look kind of weird having the tail lights tinted and having the red side markers.

I don't know about tinting them with a product like rockblocker. But, I know if you buy the Type S lights from Tim(Honda Acura Vendor) they come in a bundle with tinted side markers. He may sell them seperately. Not sure if he does wouldn't hurt to ask.

Thanks, dawg - I love the blacked-out look. The side-markers are next on the hit-list. The black rims with chrome lip on NBP - that's it!!! Unfortunately rims and NYC streets don't mix - gotta get the hell outta this city....

I've gotten stopped 2X since I got my tint, once for a HOV violation and once by a cop who was standing at the top of the ramp where you go from the Cross Island Pkwy North, to the LIE west. Both times they questioned my tint, but neither gave me a ticket for it - but I flashed my NYC sheriff courtesy badge both times - I did get a ticket for the HOV violation, which I beat in court. Neither time did they even mention the tail tints. I really don't think they care much about that, as long as you can still see the light thru them, which you can. I hope I'm not jinxing myself (knock-on-wood), but so far so good. I've had mine on since about last summer and I drive from LI to Brooklyn everyday. I also make a point to keep the shade for the moonroof open at all times to let light in to the cabin - that makes the tint seem a bit lighter with my Camel interior.

yeah - a buddy of mine is an NYC sherriff. They handle mostly scofflaws and escort the guys who tow your car when you have too many tickets. They carry guns/badges, the whole nine. The badge gets respected most of the time but not always - 1 cop told me to show him something I didn't get off ebay next time.. Another time I got pulled over doing 92 mph on I95 in Florida at 3AM and they respected the badge and let me go - the "yes, officer", "I'm sorry, officer" routine does work sometimes....

You might check out Blue Batmobile's website at www.bluebatmobile.net. I just got headlight tints for my car and am very happy with them. I know he has side marker and tail tints in all different shades. Plus, he has tints for the driving lights on '07 and '08 TL's. My headlight tints were the 1/2 tints, so the only cover the turn signals. It was $22.00 delivered. They went on quick-I used a hair dryer to curve the tints around the headlight. That was the key!!

I know you are talking about tails, but I'm confident it's the same concept.

I have a NBP tl. I was wondering which way to tint the tail lights is the best:

1. Evo tint shop tints

2. rock blocker

3. Head Light armor

please help.
