My last car was a trans am and I had 20% tints on it. I was constantly pulled over and harassed about the tints on long island/NYC area, as well as not being able to see a damn thing at night. I just got a TL and I'm super leery about putting any tints on it, but it does make the car look so much better. I really have been contemplating doing the legal limit (35%) just so I have a little something but after seeing the pic of it in this forum, I'm not so sure it's even worth it.....opinions anyone? Anyone who wants to see at night I'd stronly advise against the 20%. Long island cops are just WAITING to pull us over, especially at night, I try to give them as little reason as possible now.

I'll be moving to Philly soon and will be looking at tints so I'm wondering about anybody's experience with tinting in PA. I think the legal limit is similar to NYS, but not sure. Any thoughts?

I had many cars tinted, and a few of them were done at the TINT SHOP in Great Neck, and they are actually good at what they do. But then came the day where I had a problem with one of my tints on my 2nd gen TLS and that's when their true colors came out where they gave me the run around. I had a a few bubbles and halos appearing out of my rear window when looking out at night and they claimed they didn't see what I was talking about when I brought it in, but clearly all my friends and family could see it and then I heard about TINTMAX and he took care of me properly. I heard of him through the BIMMER forums and he does very high end cars.

He's the guy that had the contract for the NYPD cars, check out his site, www.tintmax.com and tell him Raj sent ya. His name is Steve and located in Queens. Very honest guy and very good work, and if you have a problem he takes care of it immediately.

I am looking for somewhere that sells tint BETWEEN 20% and 35%. I know it's hard to come by for some reason in the NY area. It seems to be a good compromise, I have heard of people with 28%, 30% and 32%. Anybody up here from the NY area have it?

I'm not a big fan of solarguard....reminds me of cheap tint I used to buy at autozone when I was in high school to tint my car myself. Most shops around offer solarguard, anyone like it? I'm thinking I want 3M or something else. A regular tint job is $150-$250. Ceramic goes for $300-$600. Is it really worth it to get ceramic guys?

Lorenzos would be my choice, looks a bit pricey but they look to be the best in the area. Now Tintmax looks impressive to me. Looks like they have tint that is in between 20%-35%. I just wonder about the price?

Trust me, just call Steve at tintmax and talk to him, you'll be amazed at his work. He has a computer that cuts the tints out ne wayz so the edges are perfect. Let him know that Raj with the black 06 TL is ranting and raving about him on the forums, so he'll take care of you even better. Very nice guy, you get to talk to him while he's working on your car.

I do - I have 35% all around...they are fine at night, no problems...

when I had 20%, I had to roll windows down sometimes...

go with 35% - haven't been bothered by any cops at all here on LI, NYC etc, in fact, after I got the TL, haven't really been pulled over at all.

I contacted "the tint shop" and they said they have pretty much any percentage tint you want and its going to be 240 dollars for the job. I'm thinking about bringing mine in this saturday but I'm still thinking about the no seeing at night stipulation that tints usually bring along with them.

I just got my tints done at 30% all around on my 04' TL at "The Tint Shop" . I paid 250 with tax , it was done in about an hour and a half. He said dont drop the windows for 2 days, there are alot of bubbles on the window right now, does any1 see this as normal, he told me that it is 'water' let it dry, but how the hell is water going to dry in those bubbles. Has any1 had water bubbles on their tints when you got them done? I feel like I'm going to bust back into the tint shop and bitch this guy out if those bubbles aren't gone in another day

Bubbles will go away after time. The tint on my old car had bubbles for almost 4 months before they fully went away. It was 30% Huper Optik; it was a very heavy and thick film.
