Tinting In Illinois? should i tint the fronts?
I think i am going to get my windows tinted today, and i am unsure as to whether i should get the front driver and passenger side windows tinted. i live in chicago, but travel all over the state of llinois frequently. Is this worth the hassle of dealing with the police? how much is a ticket these days? should i get a very light shade, or will the police still mess with me? i am going pretty dark on the rears and back glass.
I'm going to Mr. Kustom in chicago to get it done.
sorry about the 21 questions, just could use some logical advice here

You will have problems if you tint the front windows. IL. law is struck with the windows and it will just give the cops something to pull you over for. If you want to deal with the hassle, then I don't see a problem with it. I have it done but a light shade.

thats my dilemma....no front tints are allowed here in IL........but rears and back are ok.........dilemma is just this - the windows look better, as does the car, if they are all done the same

tjker how much did they quote you for all the windows tinted?
On all of my cars i've had 5% tint and only got pulled over a couple of times in Buffalo Grove with a $25 ticket. If you get 35% all the way around the cops won't really mess with you. Anything lower than that you have a better chance of getting pulled over. I'm getting mine tinted at 20%. 35% is to light for me.

Do you have Navi? What type of tint do they use? Let us know if you get any scratches.

My '04TL and my last car ('02 TL-S) were both tinted up front. I never got into trouble w/ cops... and I'd been right next to cops at stoplights and what not. I tinted it very light... i think 55% .. and I have my rears at 35%.

$215.00
20%rears and back, 35% fronts
lifetime guarantee
just got back from mr. kustom. took about 2 and a half hours to get it done. looks pretty good. i will give it a better review after the 5 day waiting period for everything to settle out. initial reaction to the tint-absolutely love my car even more now.....seemed to change the whole look of the car.....IMO makes the car look even more classy and sporty at the same time. this place has quite a bit of stuff to look at. back-up video, dvd players, led lights, monitors, etc. pretty cool shop.
I will have to check into what type of tint they used. it was a non-metallic tint though.

I think it all depends where you go. I am originally from Illinois and still carry Illinois tags. In Chicago they probably will not mess with you, but get into the west suburbs or north suburbs and you risk the chance. It just depends how the police are... are they busy in Chi' or are they nitpicking in the "upper class" suburbs?
I recently was pulled over for speeding in the suburbs and ended up with an $45 equipment violation ticket for tinted windows because that was his pet peeve - small fine which I paid and ate the loss; better than moving violation and $115 fine.
If you don't go around speeding then they probably will not mess with you, but if you do get pulled over my advice is to roll all of your windows down and put your hands at "10 and 2".
When I tinit again I would go 35%/20% and put the lighter on the front. Doesn't look too bad, but the split tint would look better on 2-door CL.

sup peeps, i just got my car tinted last tuesday. i'm here in jax, fl and with the terrible heat of the summer (and winter, ha) i feel that tint is a MUST for this car down here. i've got mine 30% all around and 15% on the rear window. i don't know what the law here in fl. is but that sucks not having front tint on a car but having back tint only....yuck. if i were u, i'd opt for NO tint...

Seriously, why would you even consider this if you know it is illegal? Not sure about you, but I hate being pulled over for any reason.
I would rather find ways to minimize this from occurring rather than increase my chances of it happening...
are you really just wanting to hear "go get your car tinted cuz it looks cool even though it is illegal"???
guess we need to wait for your "I got a ticket cuz of my tint" rant in a few months...

Over on Irving eh.
I had mine done by Ziebart on Mannheim by Grand, my friend Charles Obsfelder runs it.
I live over by Wrightwood/Seminary, how about you, do you park on Sheffield sometimes?
I went 30% all way around no problems at all
My old Tahoe was 22% and I did get a few comments about it.

Whoa you are by Gia's.
I have a AM 6 spd with 30% tint, also plan to get that lil ebay spoiler that peterubers has.
I see a few TL's around the neighbourhood, I'm customizing mine a bit so it stands out a wee bit. Glad to meet ya!
