Tinting
Tinting
I realize that there have been numerous threads on this in garage etc, but i have a few questions that i cannot find the answer to.
I have an '06 AM TL, and am interested in gettign only the REARS tinted because BC laws prohibit front tint.
Is it mandatory to get moleskin on the rears for tints as well? Every single tint guy i've called said the TL's they do (only rear) don't scratch up even without moleskin. Most of them havent even heard about it.
It'd be nice to get some input! Also, what % tint for something that looks good? What % do you other AM owners have?
Cheers!

All 4 of my windows get streaks and marks from the seals without tint. I will be putting felt on for sure before I tint. I am SSM and I will be going with 35%. I think it's a good level of tint without being too extreme or too light.
just some fuel for thought and I don't know how it actually affects the tint job, but the car comes stock with a low tint. Legal limit is 35% around here (and they do cite you if you go lower) so I would probably go 40 on my ssm TL.
This is assuming the factory tint does in fact affect how much much light passes through the windows with aftermarket tint, which I am only assuming it does [Someone PLEASE correct me if I'm wrong]

Just installed my moleskin this past weekend. My fronts windows have scratches, so I suggest doing the moleskin as soon or at the same time as the tint. It's a fairly easy DIY. I think tinting the backs without the fronts looks a bit odd, but I know it's the law in some states. Good luck.

i got my tint done without moleskin and mine are scratched up.
i didn't know about moleskin until i joined AZine (2 months AFTER i got my tint done).
i have SUPER light tint on my NBP TL (50% all around to be exact). a waste of money, IMO. you can't really tell there's tint on the car during the day unless it's gloomy/muggy outside.

I just got 35% all around and have been loving it. 20% is too ghetto for me tbh... And don't worry about tinting your fronts, cops rarely pull you over for that, they have real crimes to worry about.
And moleskin is 100% must.

Everytime I read azine, chances of cops pulling me over increase.

Sorry OP for HiJacking your thread.
If I could redo it I would get 35% ALL AROUND. It creates a classy image, not dark blacked out. It also depends on where you live. For instance, if I lived in florida I would get 5% all around including front windshield.
As to the % of tint, ive always done 20% and what i did on my TL-S. Looks great IMO.
Apply moleskin AFTER you get the tint done.
I just got huper optik tint installed two weeks ago. the passenger side (both front and rear) still have moisture in them.
Huper optik is pretty thick and will take a couple more weeks to fully cure.
The guy that tinted my windows, said to wait a week before applying the felt.
Studying the tint and the window sill, it seems safe to apply the felt after one week of drying. (of course, this is on a case by case basis)
There are plenty of DIY's on this site for applying the mole skin, I don't think I'll have a problem. I will install mole skin maybe this weekend.
