Tinted windows...now problem with Radio...
Ok--So I got my windows tinted a few days ago. Llumastar metallic tint.
Stations that came in pretty clear on my am are very faint---they get stronger as I get closer to the signal but not strong enough. FM even sounds worse...I called the tint shop. They said that maybe water could still be on the window and to let it bake in the sun today. I dont know if thats the case or not. Where exactly is the antenna hookup for the radio. I know its in the window but where does it hook up to the head unit? Maybe I can get an external antenna...anyone ever have this issue ?--By the way--I had the exact same tint put on my CLS with Nav and had no issues whatsoever with Nav or radio.

the antenna is in the rear window itself. you see the lines running around your third brake light. those are the radio antennas. the horizontal lines are used for defrosting but around the third brake light is a boxed out square. i would think it would run up the back roof of the car and come down one of the rear pillars. don't quote me on that as i don't have the service manual yet.

well...
I've done a little research. I highly doubt the tint is causing the problem. I've been told by the dealer that the connector for the antenna is in the passenger side pillar. I am hoping maybe it was knocked loose and I can just pop the panel off and reconnect. Of course the other option is that the tintshop accidentally cut the antenna in the glass itself. Of course they wont own up to that...but thats why I pay with a credit cards...
I am going to see if I can fix it via the pillar...

Radio antenna is in the rear window. Some ppl do the metallic tint having the similar problem, too.
I don't know there is an antenna in the pillar...
You don't have Navi, right? It may be interfered, too.

Maybe your workers really cut off the antenna in rear window... if your Navi is working fine, it could be antenna's issue instead of tints...

I have the same problem...and posted it a couple of weeks ago.

The thing is I don't know what brand tint I have, but I'm pretty sure it's not metallic. Metallics are the mirror-like tints, right? And my problem is just AM - Navi and FM do not seem to be affected.

I actually just read that post today after you brought up the subject again. I will take a look when I get home. If it is the case, I doubt my dealer will fix it as they did not do the tint install.
