Tinted Windows
Tinted Windows
Getting my windows tinted on my 04 TL I just pick up Saturday, and read previous postings on the felt or moleskin liner that's needed. I contacted the Tint company and all the guy would say is that it's scratch free, and I don't need that felt.
question: Is it possible to get a "scratch free" tint job or will I definately need the felt/moleskin liner to keep the tint job from scratching?
Getting the Tint this coming Saturday so an immediate answer from anyone is greatly appreciated!!!

so you didn't need the felt liner and all the good stuff? Just want to make sure that I don't mess up my windows and make this beautiful piece of machinery ugly like some tint-jobs.
Nope, never heard about that stuff. Go to a place that warranties their work. I spent $140 and it took about two hours. I’ve had about 7 cars done at my tint shop and never a problem with any of them.
I know of no film that is scratch free. Felt or moleskin will certainly help to keep it in it's best condition though. However even with the liner you can still get scratches. Scratches happen! :p

Most places that I have seen in Michigan, Maryland, and Virginia areas usually gives you lifetime warranty for such problems including film turning purple. and I have seen many of my friends getting tinting redone for scratching reasons. Ask them.
I called two places in my area. One said the "necessary felt" would cost me $50 more. The other didn't mention it at all. Both are reputable and both have lifetime warranties. Guess which one I'm going to?
Just had mine done with 3M Luumar Titanium - $160. They told me no felt was needed and as I've dealt with them before am comfortable with their decision. Just make sure you let them set for about 3 days before putting you windows down.
I had my windows tinted with Diamond film by Solar Guard. They offered an extended warranty for an additional $30. My total cost of tinting was $170. Everything looked good for the first 3 weeks. I just noticed a scratch on the drivers window close to the front. It is from top to the bottom of the window in a straight line.
The extended warranty covers any scratches for all windows for the life of the car, no questions asked. Now I am glad I bought the warranty!
