Tint + Radar detector Help !!
Ok so I just ordered a valentine 1 online and didnt even think about it when i ordered it but my windows are tinted pretty dark ( 15's all around with 40% on the windshield) will this effect my radar detector signals at all if it is mounted above my rear view mirror ?
Anyone's Opinions would be helpful
Thanks,

i have 20% on windows, but not wind shield. my beltronics manaul says to place the detector in a spot without interference from windshield wipers and tints. i have mine mounted a couple of inches from the middle towards the passenger side, where there is a gap between the wipers and i have not had a problem. i know my windshield isnt tinted but the rear is and even at that mounting spot i get awesome rear detection.

I have the passport 8500. Its hardwired just below the factory tint line on the front windshield. Im tinted 20% all around and 45% on my front windshield. It works Great! had this for a couple of months now and it has saved me a good couple of times. No problems.

wtf.. I posted a reply but it all got deleted.. got error message "needs to be 1 character.."
Anyways..
The tint acts as a polarizer which is why you can see more light viewing out than you can viewing in. Visible light is in the range of 380nm to 800nm in wavelength and 890MHz to 2.6GHz range in frequency.
Radar bands X,Ku,K,Ka are in the range of 10.5GHz to 36GHz which means the tint may reflect some of the RF since it is a polarizer. If your entire winshield is tinted, you could remove a little area for your V1 (highly undesirable), otherwise it will work, just not as well like Tripnbeats mentioned.
A better idea, which will require modification, is to mount the detector around the body like around the lip. Some older sports cars used to have this like the twin turbo 300zx, with front and rear radar detectors. I'm pretty sure no Mfg allows this anymore. :thumbsdow

You're Good
TLNY04 I have the same setup as you. 15's all around and 40% on my windshield and I am using my V1 perfectly fine. Like TripnBeats said, tints will reduce your radio coverage but even with that reduced radio coverage, my V1 works just as good and I have tested it up against my buddies while crusing on a freeway and we picked up all radar signals at the same time so... I can safely tell you that you're in the clear.
However my FM radio reception has suffered a bit as well as my XM but mostly on stations I never really listen to anyways, so I dont care.
BTW the tints I have is LLUMAR Platinum Plus. Its funny how parchment interiors need so much tinting to get the same effect as 20's on a black interior.

I'm in Wantagh... rarely drive up to westchester. Actually I've driven down to MIAMI more than westchester.. LoL.
Hardwire your V1 and think about even getting one of those flush mounts, it will look clean. I've hardwired it.. just need to get the flushmount.
