Tint % to put on 2008 Pearl White TL?
Hey everybody! Just bought a brand new 2008 Pearl White TL last week. I have an appointment this Saturday to get tints done - problem is I am not sure what % would look best, and if I should get the same % all around or darker in the back only.
I am from Toronto Canada and am not concerned in discussing legal issues as I am sure I don't want 5% tints! I was thinking 25% all around, or 25% front, 20% back. My only concern is ease of seeing outside in the night.
Can people with (White) TL's post pics of their tint jobs and write in the % that they used in order to help me figure out what would look best? Also tell me if you have any difficulty seeing in the night time (with rain too?)
Thanks in advance!

Hi,
Is this your first car with tints? We all have different preferences... I personally have 35% on the sides and 20% on the back, which provides a nice blind of darkness, but I'm still visible behind the wheel for the cops. 20% all around is sexier but riskier.
In regards to seeing at night, I had 5%, 20% and now 35%...too me it's all the same as eventually you will get use to it, if you cannot see thru it, do not, I repeat, Do NOT go dark, safety is more important than aesthetics.
And in regards to pictures, check out the photo gallery...there is a ton there.

In the day time you can see thru them if the sun is shinning bright, it's a mirror effect when looking from the side, and at night you can't see in...you'd need to place your face on the window to see interior.

Your options are usually:
50% -> 35% -> 20% -> limo.
So it's impossible for you to get 25%. I just got my car tinted today, I went with 35% all around. The white exterior easily makes the tinted windows look darker, and if you have an ebony interior, it'll make it look even more so.
On my previous car (white accord), I first started with 20% for back and rear sides, and 50% for fronts. But I didn't like how that looked from the profile even though it's the best combination for not being pulled over. I eventually switched to 35% all around and I liked how that looked much better.
But it's pretty much a subjective/opinion thing. I'll take and post pictures after I get the car washed and the door visors installed.

Hey man,
someone mentioned its impossible to get 25%. False.
I have 23% on my NBP on the rears. Didn't want to get the fronts the same shade as the Vancouver Police dont react well to front tints that dark. 40-50% I can get away with. Somethin to think about.

FormulaONE tint comes in 28% (but it's a metal film). Solar Gard has a couple of lines at 22-23% (only one is labeled safe for Navi).
Llumar has one at 26% (even closer than yours), but there's metal.
Most tints comes in 5% (limo), ~20% (dark), ~35% (medium), 50% (light). But either way, I'm not wrong when I say you can't get 25% at all.

I agree with Tekno. I actually have 35 on my rear windshield, but i'm getting it changed to 20% this weekend.
Babnik - is it really worth the hassle? you either risk it or you don't - your choice.

I have 35% all around and its good enough tint for me. Why do you need to have extremely dark tint anyways its a pain in the ass at night when you have to reverse somewhere have to roll your windows down to look out, its a pain when its raining or bad weather out. And above all it draws quite the attention from local police authorities. I'd say just do the legal and you will still like the look of it. And above all imo 35% is nice and classy, I don't think anyone needs to have extremely dark tint more of the younger crowd like to do that to their vehicles.

Well, personally, when I was 18, I wanted limo tint all around. :P I thought it was cool then. But now that I'm older and grumpier, limo all around doesn't sound that cool anymore. However, that's just me.
Navi w/ back-up camera makes backing up at night not a factor.

when its raining and foggy, even backup camera doesn't help. with tints all around the car, its kind of annoying parking at night. Got to watch out for cops. My front two are rolled down fully whenever cops are around, regardless of rain snow or even thunderstorm.

Oh no no, its avail, I haven't seen much of it but it exists.
Some of them have that mirror finish to them. Still debating wether I like it or not.

I vaguely remember reading somewhere that mirror finish tints were banned years back because of the glare they caused and probably more so because there's no chance of cops being able to see through them. But it might just be a California thing. However, I do remember dumped pick-up trucks back in the 80s rockin' Beastie Boys with the mirror tints and blasting their bass.

For photo #3, since the sun shade is there, I'm sure it made the sides appear darker.
Once I install the door visors and give the car a decent wash, I'll post some more photos if you're still interested. This is 35% all-around (obivously minus front windshield).

Does anyone have pics of one with darker tints in the back?

I like how well it fits the windshield. However, it doesn't fold in half so be mindful of it.

OK everyone, I went with 20% all around (the guy only had limo, 20 and 35)
The 35 seemed too light to me, and the pics from collezione looked great and not super dark
If I get trouble from the cops ill get the fronts changed to 35
Ill post pics (when I figure out how) later on

I do 50 all the way around on all of my cars. Just enough to cut more rays, looks cool and isn't broken up by different percentage tints.
