When my engine is cold, it makes a thump or thud when you first turn it over...it does not happen when the engine is even slightly warm... anybody seen this?

Do you mean something different from the slight "thunk" that you get at about 10 mph as you drive off? That is normal. Never experienced what you reference, although I park indoors 95% of the time so perhaps our circumstances differ.

 

In the past, I got it in each time I started my engine and rolled forward... now it seems disappeared... very very weird.

 

i get the same thumping noise on start ups too and i park indoors.. or if imsitting at a red light i can feelthe thunpingsomtimestoo...

 

That THUMP you get is the ABS self test. you may get 1 or 2 thumps sometimes they are more noticable inside then out side.

 

I have this same experience. I don't think it is the ABS as the thump I hear is immediately after starting the car. As soon as it starts, the thump occurs. It sounds pretty odd, but I also assumed this is normal.

 

what I'm talking about is surely not the ABS test...I know what that sounds like--this has to do with the initial turning over of the engine...but I guess it's nothing to worry about. If I want the dealer to check it out, I'd have to leave the car there overnight...which I don't want to do!
