I sit at the red light listening to the rolling stones on XM radio. Punk kid on a mustang checks out your ride and looks with a little disdain, The gauntlet is thrown! The light turns to green and the noise of screeching tires fills the air. First gear is gone in a heart beat, second gear comes with another dose of burning rubber, the punk kid is looking flustered while you know you're only just getting warmed up. Third gear is here with another sonorous chirp. You see a face of dispair on your rearview mirror, the speedometer is reading 85 and suddenly you hit the rev limiter, hit fourth on the fly and the mustang is now five cars behind and you're doing 115. A sly little smile appears shows up on my face at the next light. The punk kid rolls down his window and asks YO DUDE WHAZZ DATT??? You smile and say,"just a Honda"! Life is good........

Kudos as the write up was very entertaining. The issue that makes it fun is there is a perception that Honda makes economical, gutless autos and that takes the stereotyped Mustang driver by surprise.
But having been a previous Mustang owner, I've just got to say it. I'm sorry, but the TL is nowhere near as fast as the 5.0 Mustang I used to have. The power of the stang will forever run in my adrenalin glands.
Having said that, I'm also gonna say, I had more problems with that ride than all my others combined. At the time, the power was worth the trouble and I maintained it from new to ~125k. Today, it's a different story and that's why I'm a Honda owner. While the TL does have some balls, IMHO it's scanty compared to the Stang.

Uh-huh
Gimmie the Acura for dependability and as a daily driver, but what kind of Mustang was this kid driving; I'll guarantee it wasn't a 5.0 liter. Probably the bargain basement model.
Sorry to say the new 'Stang will mop the pavement with the TL.

I too raced a Mustang GT, not sure if it had the 4.6 or 5.0...most likely the 4.6 because it was fairly new looking. I beat it, but not by much (couple car lengths). The stang was lowered, had aftermarket wheels ad exhaust. Not sure what else it had.

A Mustang? You're comparing a rattling, flimsy, uncomfortable, in for service all the time, lousy stereo in the cabin, Ford to the new TL?
Yep, it's a little faster, but it's faster than most BMW's, Mercedes's, Audi's, Jaguars and many great cars. Apples and Oranges comparison, IMO.

Well guys it was a 4.6 GT the most recent one. No it was not a 5.0. But the reason they have the 4.6 is because in stock version it does produce quite a bit more hp than the 5.0L ever did. The 5.0 was for pulling stumps. It essentially was useless beyond 4000 RPMs. It was a fantastic hole shot and then died as the speeds increased.

Just be careful that the next one you race doesn't have little snakes on the fenders...
Frankly, I'm doubtin' vtecbrain's story now. Beatin' even the current GT with a TL is sketchy, at best. The current Mustang GT will do 0-60 in about 5.6 seconds, so it's also possible the kid's driving skills were subpar.
I hope vtecbrain was telling the truth; I'd like to think that the TL is ballsy enough to dust a current GT. But the 2005 will kick our collective asses, I'm afraid.

My old 96 Maxima SE-5MT would eat GT 5.0's and IROC Z's for every meal. I think it is very possible for the TL to outrun a GT 4.6.
Maybe our thread starter is an expert rower!

According to Car & Driver, 5/2001, the Mustang GT did a 0-60 in 6.0 seconds and the Quarter Mile in 14.7 seconds. These numbers are not beyond a 2004 6MT TL. Especially since the 2001 Acura Type S is about as fast (see below):
2001 Mustang GT - 0-60mph = 6.0 sec., 1/4 mile = 14.7 Sec.(5/01)
2001 Acura TL Type S - 0-60mph = 6.2 sec., 1/4 mile = 14.8 sec. (7/01)
The Cobra, well that's a different story.
