Thoughts on the upcoming TLX Type S?
I've seen spy shots & have read several articles, rumored to have a turbo and 350 Hp, some have mentioned possibly 390. Even though the test car is covered and hidden in the pics the body looks widened around the wheel wells and exhaust tips look great. Also said to have vents in the hood. I know I've put a lot of $$ recently in my 07' TLS it would be nice to have the TLX Type S, but I'm sure the price will be around $50,000. Id definitely keep the 07' as main transportation though.

I think its safe to say it leaning more to $55k, power wise not much to impress me unless it can sprint 0-60 around 4.5 sec. To put thing into reality the Q50 RS already put down 400 on paper, BMW M2 comp is around 400 hp as well.
I won't be buying new because the 1st 3 year depreciation is a bitch, about 50% off the original MSRP, by the time the TLX-S got to 3 years old i might tempting to pick up a GSF lol.

I love Honda/Acura, my family works for R&D and I've had a great experience working at an Acura dealership myself.....but that being said, Acura has a bad habit of over-promising and under-delivering.
Most recently the A-Spec packages in the latest gen of vehicles. No HP gains. Just trim. Nothing that says "performance" besides the NSX. And all of this wouldn't be that bad if it wasn't for the high pricing associated with average performance.
Realistically, if I have ~50 grand to spend, I'm going to the BMW dealership to get something with more power. I wouldn't get my hopes up for the new TLX. I really do hope Acura surprises us, but I know the company has been struggling to find a solid identity in the mid-high range market, and I'm guessing the car will be underpowered.

Sadly I'm starting to think 330 Hp, Acura just won't take that giant leap forward. If it's $55,000 that's another $3,800 in NJ sales tax PLUS dealer charges. That would be over $60,000 yikes. New TLX with A-spec is nearly $45,000, I see them used with 10,000 miles for $33,000.

Was talking to the sale guy who sold me my MDX about this. He said Acura listens to it customers and they will be pushing the type S out by the end of the year. We were talking about how they made a big mistake going away from it....

I've had my hopes up for the new Type-S since I first heard about it, and became super ecstatic that they might be approaching the powertrain the way I initially assumed (taking the NSX engine and detuning it instead of designing an all new system) but considering how quiet it's been... I don't really know what to think. I really hope Acura will hit it out of the park though because the current TLX didn't even feel as sporty and fun to drive as my 07 Type-S with 250K on it.
Acura also has a super engine to work with in the K20C1... so who knows what they'll actually end up doing. I'd honestly prefer the turbo 4 be used in a project to bring back the Integra though... one can dream, right?

Funny! I was just about to write this EXACT thing. In fact, I tried to put a low offer on one (Stinger GT2) this week, but the dealer wasn't willing to go that low. I'm probably going to just wait until the 2020's come out and then make the jump. When I test drove the Stinger, I decided that would be my next car. To me, it's the best compromise of everything (sporting, comfort, cost, AND looks). My 2007 Type S has been great, but Acura has really been disappointing me on both the performance (under-powered) and design (boring) fronts.

i've been looking pretty hard at the GT2 myself, do the 2020s have anything new? (sorry to the OP for the OT tangent)

dang... if it's in the mid $55k range, that's a tough pill to swallow. like others have mentioned, it better have 400hp. the TL-S has 286hp for being a 12-13 year old car, so Acura better step it waaaaay up to make things worthwhile for us. otherwise, Acura will end up losing a lot of their sport enthusiasts to other brands.

From my (rudimentary) research, it will be the same as the 2019's. I'm hoping they add full remote starting and hvac control via the uvo app, but I'm not optimistic. (Sorry for continuing the tangent- just wanted to answer the question)

I am already did my friend, its sad to see a KIA is actually able to put a product on the market and surpass the TLX A-spec. I got a chance to test drove GT2 trim, that why I said TLX-S better put down at least 400 hp or their sale will suffer again.

Oh - gotcha. Yeah, I've been pretty disappointed with the TL/TLX since our 3G TL was replaced. I didn't like the looks of the 4G at all, and was hopeful that the 5G would win me back, but it was just not "sporty" enough for me. This is just looks - I haven't test driven one. But, based on the reviews, Acura is going more after the luxury market than the sport market, so I immediately lost interest. I've seen some A-specs on the road, and they look much better than the base, but not enough to pull me away from the Stinger. If the Type-S is out during my purchase window (next 6 months), then great - I'll give it a spin, but that's not expected.

I never liked it, really...
Looks too much like a 4 door Dodge Viper, to me...
Then again, the TLX is one of my favorite cars on the road, so what do I know...

I actually wanted a G70 first, but then I test drove one, and although I loved its drive qualities, the back seat was basically useless. That's what led me to the Stinger - similar drive to the G70 (same drivetrain) but with a useful back seat!

Why has no one mentioned the TRANSMISSION?!?
The current 9 speed sourced from ZF has universally garnered horrible reviews from media and drivers. It's clearly the weak point of the TLX V6 platform. I don't care if the new TLX Type S has 350hp or 450hp, if it's mated to the 9 speed it's a hard pass.
Until Honda integrates the in house 10 speed to a 2.0 turbo or V6 for the next gen TLX (it's already built, witness 2019 RLX V6 10 speed), I will look elsewhere for the eventual replacement to my great running '06 TL. With Acura's history of certain transmission issues, this remains the most important aspect of upcoming TLX models.

Are you sure you're looking at a Genesis G70?! It's got a 365 hp twin turbo engine...
Exactly.
My spidey-sense tells me you're kidding, but I can't help myself... A quick search showed a 2014 IS350 0-60 in 5.5 secs. I doubt the new ones are much faster since I think they still use the same drivetrain.

PERFORMANCE
The sound of its inspiring exhaust note hints at the G70’s impressive performance credentials. The available 3.3L, 365-horsepower twin turbo paired with launch control pushes the G70 to a quick, confident jump off the line.

What's with the focus on just HP and 0-60 times? It isn't like we currently drive anything that is a true rocket with lots of HP. To me, as long as 0-60 is sub 7 second, it is plenty fast for me these days. It is more about a balance of performance, handling, ride quality, reliability, and looks.....and practicality. If practicality was not important, I would be driving something smaller with 2 less doors.

Actually that's called being a well educated car enthusiast who isn't a fanboy of only ONE brand, being Acura. Geez, what in the world is going on with Acurazine lately. These guys are out of control with their worthless comments and insults thrown around... God forbid you discuss another brand or discuss proven facts, then all of a sudden you turn into the asshole on this forum. I just went through it with another worthless member on the RDX forum. By all means, if you can't hold an educated conversation on a car forum, then please go hit that log out button and join a facebook group. FFS.
