For those who require Automatic Headlights

In the past there has been a lot of talk about people wanting, no, NEEDING automatic headlights and appauled that the TL with all its might and power did not have them. The common response has been that you got so much and can't have it all, get over it. Great car. BUT WAIT, is there a way? Can it be done? You don't have to live like that, like a low class peon. You can make your TL even greater. Auto headlights are a wonderous marvel that no TL should be without. Really? Probably not, however those who keep whining: there is a solution. Most have stopped reading by now so I will stop babbling and just post the damn links for the potential solutions I have come across:

Enjoy and good luck.

Instead of using the headlights to navigate to the front door, use a HomeLink device to cut on the hpome lights, and program the TL's HL to turn night to day.

Yeah, my lights turn on "automatically" when I open the door to get into the car, and then turn off "automatically" when I shut the door on the way out. That's all I need.

I drive an 04 Trailblazer most of the time and it has the automatic lights. When I drive the TL it is hard to remember to turn the lights on.

My QX4 has auto headlights, but they don't seem to understand the concept of "Sunrise". Have to turn them off 'cos I can't see the display! Dealer claims it's OK. Morons. Can't wait to dump this thing!

Drove my 93 Wrangler at night for the first time in months. Took me 5 mins to find the lights switch. It's hard finding a black rocker switch in a black jeep with no interior light in a dark parking lot... (note to self: leave flashlight in Jeep).

Ok, I am an electrical engineer .... I just got my car on Friday but here is what I am going to be doing soon:

1) Measure the voltage output of the stock light sensor on the dash at day and night.
2) Build circuit to detect both conditions and it will have a memory to it ... in other words so if you go under an overpass yoru lights won't come on, etc
3) This circuit will trip a relay to turn on your lights.

2 hours of research & about under $10 in parts from an electronics store.

I had this featured added on to my RX-7 with a Clifford alarm and I loved it and it worked perfectly without any false "overpass" turn ons.

I don't have time to get into this project until the weekend of September 11, so please don't expect results before then. I will post to let you know what I find.

This thread has absolutely NOTHING to do with DRLs.

Besides which, one would not dare post another thread about DRLs when there are so many others in the forum.

The only time the auto-headlights on my Maxima come on under overpasses is if I'm stuck in stop and go traffic -- under an overpass. seems legit to me.

Anyone who "needs" automatic lights shouldn't be driving. The judgement skills required for when to rotate the switch at night or in the rain is pretty basic. Automatic lights are another nanny option like automatic windshield wipers. "Gee, Fran - suddenly I can't see out the windshield. Whatever should I do?"

I don't like auto wipers ... they annoy me more than they help. I think it is all about options. If you like it, great, if not fine too. I have a friend who hates auto headlights. I don't think they are a need. Granted once you have them you tend to forget about them when you drive other cars ....
