Thinknig about making an offer on an '06 TL

Hi- new here and looking for some opinions. I am thinking about making an offer on this 06 TL from a private seller. I have been driving a 1500.00 Saturn SL1 the past 4 years and with almost 200k on it, I'm ready for a nicer ride.

Looked at this TL Sunday and liked it alot. It is on the second owner who has had it since 09 when it had 66k, now 106. Has several reciepts from the acura dealer. In the last 6-8 months it has a new clutch, timing belt, water pump, brakes and 2 new rear tires. It has a few scuffs and dings and one decent sized dent it the drivers door that you can see in one of the pics. Any input on a fair offer? I think 13 is too high.

Thanks. I was going to offer 10,500-11,000, and was not going past 12 at all. I told him when I drove it I liked it alot but not at 13 and he said he would work with me on the price. I have looke at another local that was much rougher with 118k and had not had the timing belt done. He was asking 10k for it but it was too beat for me.

One other thing that bugged me besides the dent, it the info screen at the top of the dash looked like a harsh cleaner was used on it and was "blurred". You could read it, but not entirely clear. Think it could be polished out?

Generally looks very good for 106K
Timing belt done/ new clutch

Retail is $13,200- I think the max of $12K is fair- if you can do better, more power to you. Remember the timing belt adds another $800-1000 or so if you get the one with the 118K miles. I'd opt for the one you looked at.

You could tell the owner was anal about the car. He is actually only selling it because his daughter is about to start driving and has no interest in learning to drive stick. Guess what he bought. An 05 with less miles with an auto in the exact same color.

The upper display may be able to be cleaned or polished. You may find that its actually not ruined, some people get protectants or cleaners on the lenses when they are wiping down the dash. If this is the case you should be able to clean it. If the lens is infact damaged I would recommend removing it from the dash and like you said maybe try polishing it. If that doesnt work I bet you can track down one on ebay. You may have to buy the entire thing but still shouldnt too expensive.
Also, not sure how familiar you are with the TL at this point, but dont forget starting with the 07 the 3G TL got a midcycle refresh. So if you want the most up to date of what the 3G TL offers then you want to look at the 07 and 08. There was a decent amount of changes with things like front and rear bumper updates, different headlights and taillights, and wheels. The interior was also updated as well as the addition of aux input for the stereo and a backup camera on nav equipped cars. I have seen 07 and 08 TL's going for low teens as well. Plus, if you get an automatic the 07 and 08 cars do not have all the tranny issues of the older 04-06's. Hope this helps.

Goodluck on whatever car you decide on.

That KBB # was for very good condition...it would be extremely rare to find an 8 year old car in better than VG condition, I don't care how anal a guy is about his car. Especially for a car with 106K on it.

I agree with that. It was surely no better than VG. Still thinking about it. My POS saturn runs fine, so i'm in no big rush.

Looks like we made a deal at 11k. Be a week or so as the seller is out of town with an ill family member.

I agree with this fellow member. Also keep in mind it's navi which new was 1800bux for the added tech. On the used car market it's usually a 500.00 premium compared to a base. Not to mention the rarity of a 6spd. Keep us posted. My mom had a Carbon Grey 06. Brought back memories. I picked the color because it shows the least dirt and I knew she wouldn't keep clean 24/7 like we would.
